- Wedding: April 2014
I need some help. I am getting married in April which is our Australian autumn (fall) and am expecting the temperature to be roughly in the mid twenties, which in the old language is roughly high 70s low 80s.
My dress is fairly simple but it does have pleating across the front with a brush train. I have had my heart set on silk dupioni but feel that with the pleating across the front it will drape rather than pleat. So it has been suggested I look at taffeta and here’s the problem. I am worried that if the day is too warm I will sweat and the taffeta will show the sweat stains (the dress has 3/4 sleeves) and will wrinkle badly. Does anyone have any ideas for a crisp fabric that’s not too heavy, that will flow nicely, hold a pleat and not be too hot? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Also because I’m in regional Australia fabric shops are scarce so the sourcing will be done online. I have discovered the Silk Baron and love it! But any other places would be great too.
Also this is the first marriage for both us of, I’m 51 and he will be 43 when we marry. My heart is set on red, my mother and friends are having hysterics and screaming ‘YUK a red wedding dress!!!!’, my fiance doesn’t care as long as I turn up, my dressmaker says that I should wear what I want and I am trying to keep everyone happy. What does everyone else think? We are having a red velvet wedding cake with cream cheese icing and I like the idea of the red dress, red cake. My fiance is Welsh so the red pays homage to Wales too. Somehow I think I just answered my own question lo.
