Yep. I’m gay. Married in July and now having my wedding. 🙂 I’ve been to countless bridal stores, but I don’t know, I just can’t find the right dress simply because I have a very awkward body to fit.
You see, I’m a ballet dancer which makes me very thin so naturally you’d think anything would look great on me, but my rear…is larger than the average watermelon. So no drop-waist, mermaid, trumpet or tighter wedding dresses around that area. Also, I want a dress with maybe a straighter top and not something plunging or anything made to create the illusion of breasts (if it’s an issue of fitting/boning, that is ok. Can be altered). I’m a guy. I don’t want to feign being a girl. I just want to be a princess for a day. 🙂
I’m a glamour queen, I admit. I love beading and all that, but I can’t have overly detailed skirts or overly large skirts because I’m tiny. About 5’3 (162cm). I don’t want to get eaten by my dress!
Any help with designers or design ideas would be greatly appreciated. I really just need something princessy (theme is Beauty and the Beast), something to hide my watermelon and something that won’t make me look I’m trying to feign having breasts.
Thank you so much in advance. I probably sounded snooty and horrible in this post, but it’s almost midnight where I am. Thank you thank you and please no nasty stuff in the comments. 🙂

Have you tried something empire waisted? You can use crinoline to control the puffiness so its not overwhelming. Good luck!

Welcome to the Hive!
Maggie Sottero is always a safe bet. About your rear, don’t worry about that, they will measure you and order a dress to fit it then you can have it altered to meet what you are looking for not. A good website to browse is weddingshoppeinc.com. I bought a dress at their brick and mortar store but they have tons online to surf through. If you see something you like then you can call around to local stores and see if they carry any of the ones you would like to try on. Good luck, let us know which ones you are looking at. Bees love dress polls.
Can’t wait to see what you plan for your big day!

How about this dress, which gives the illusion of a figure? I love this one.

Another thought… To help create the illusion of a figure, you could look into wearing a man’s corset under the dress. A friend of mine wears them all the time, and he always looks fabulous.
Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

What about a sheath dress? From those I’ve seen, they might flatter your body type.
This is “Corrina” from JCrew $495 US.
And another from JCrew for $299.99 US:

@happyface: OMG that is STUNNING!!! The top is amazing!

@tksjewelry: I thought the model doesn’t have boobs really and not much hips and the dress makes it look like she does, plus the OP said the theme is Beauty and the Beast… and I thought this is perfect!
So what do you think OP? Am I on the right track?

Do you have any pictures? You’d probably get better responses if you could show us your figure. Sometimes people see their own bodies very differently from how the rest of the world perceives them.
Also, I haven’t seen any male brides on the bee. Hope to see your pictures someday!

Oh thank you all so much for all of the wonderful replies everyone! Sorry I could not reply sooner – I called my husband (he’s in the military). Anyway, reply time!
@tksjewelry : Yes, I shall take a look at Maggie Sottero! The whole issue with my behind prevents me from wearing closer fitting dresses like mermaids because it makes me look disproportioned and too sexy for my wedding I think. But thanks for the link!
@Mrs Canuck : I’ve tried some sheath dresses before, but my watermelon still gets in the way. Also I think I want something with a little bit more poofiness. The theme is afterall, Beauty and the Beast. However, thanks so much for your suggestions. A friend is having her wedding next year as well and loves simple sheath dresses so I will pass on your suggestions to her. 🙂
@Lulume : Those are some charming dresses, I like the soft look of them. 🙂
@pinarffle : I agree with your suggestion, however I feel extremely insecure about posting pictures of myself on the internet at the moment. I’ve only recently come out of anorexia. I’m at a healthier BMI (17.1), but I am not completely back to what I used to be (18.3). I also don’t want people to see pictures of me and feel they should look like that – that is another insecurity. Please understand.
@GreenEyedMoon ; I don’t really need to create the illusion of a figure very much. I’ve tried boned dresses before and they cinched me in well enough. I’ve also got a higher defined waistline caused by dancing in ballet costumes since the age of 11 (yeah…I danced girl roles and still do).
@Happyface : OMG! That is definitely something along the lines of what I am looking for! Yes, Yes you are on the right track! 🙂 My only fear is the bustle. When I say my rear is the size of a watermelon, I don’t lie. It’s my milkshake that brings all the boys to the yard. 😉

@happyface: The top reminds me of a fondant covered cake. Haha…very lovely though

this is a Maggie Sottero.A bit glam with a corset back. its ivory with silver overlay. I think sheath cut would look awesome on you from what you have described about your body type. Im 5’4. Welcome to the Hive!!
And the sash under the bust is removable 🙂

This made me lol. I am not bustling my dress and wearing it on my wrist all night. its a light sheath dress, so it would be easy to do. Also, is there any way you could bustle it underneath? Please keep us updated on your choices 🙂

Have you considered going the custom route? You may be able to get the perfect top that way, something with lots of beautiful beading and a gorgeous cut that will accent YOUR figure and won’t try to show off the boobs you don’t have.
What sort of neckline/sleeves are you thinking of? Strapless, off-the-shoulder, sweetheart, straight, full sleeves… And is January your actual wedding date? If so, I assume you’re looking for something kind of summery, yes?
