This is one of those stories that you just have to share because its too crazy to make up and too frustrating to keep in.

I got engaged last June, picked out my dress in August and am getting married on May 23rd to the love of my life. Everything is going so well with planning, no major problems, so excited to have my fiance and all his fellow US Marines in uniform etc. etc. Everything is great...until today.

In august I refused to go to the big name bridal stores and spend thousands of dollars on a wedding dress when I knew would love a less expensive dress as well. So I went with my mom and aunt to a mom and pop shop in brooklyn that I had seen for years... its been there for 40 years.

Everything is great, I find a beautiful Mia Solano dress, leave a deposit, told it will take 6 months to make and ship and I should check back in February. Come February I visit the store and am told dress will be in on time. I call in March to ask if it has come...they tell me its in the store and to come in april for the fitting. It is April, today, and I go for my fitting. There is a dress, in a bag in the style I ordered. I go to try it on when guess what....the dress has lipstick marks on the inside and its the SAMPLe that I tried on a year ago!!! I dont panick right away when i tell the nice sales lady that this is not my dress and its worn. After 30 minutes of searching the store she comes back with those dreaded words " I HAVE BAD NEWS." My dress, which was supposedly ordered and shipped and received in the store is nowhere to be found! Did they sell it to someone else? Did they let someone else try my dress on? Did they just try to sell me the sample??? Lots of unanswered questions. After my aunt raised hell in the store we decided we are going tomorrow, getting our deposit back and coming up with plan B. They said they will try to get me my dress, but that is nearly impossible.

So here we are, 31 days before the wedding, with no dress. I have a beautiful borrowed Reem Acra veil, great shoes and jewelry, just no dress :( I am mad at the store for trying to rip me off or screw me over...I am not sure what happened. I am not freaking out because I keep reminding myself that when I walk down the aisle, no matter what dress I wear, there will be the man that I love and want to spend forever with.

Now I just need to find a new perfect dress in the next 2 weeks so there can be time for alterations. Stressed. Hope this kind of thing doesnt happen to anyone else. In case you are ever in brooklyn dont ever shop at DORIS fashions. We vowed to them today that they will loose customers after this fiasco and I am reporting them to the Mia Solano company headquarters for this crap they tried to pull.

    Hi,

What Mia Solano gown is it?  Maybe the bees can help?  We will be on your mission!

I am so sorry! That's messed up. I don't even know what to suggest in this situation. I'm thinking sample dresses (Kleinfelds just had a sample sale so maybe there are some dresses still at sale price) or pre-owned gowns on Craigslist?

You're focusing on the most important part of your day -- marrying your man -- so just take a deep breath and be open-minded with whatever dress the universe brings you. =)

I am so sorry they lost your dress! Are they going to be able to rush order it?

I know this isn't a perfect solution, but I have a David's Bridal dress that I would give to you for $150 (regularly $300) if you want. Its new & unaltered. I ended up getting a short dress for a JP ceremony and DB wouldn't let me return this long one.

The dress was the mia solano m419c that is in my little profile picture. Magenta thats what my family said...it wasn't meant to be. I feel like I might find an even better dress now it will just be more stressful! The store might be able to rush order it or come up with it somehow but I am so disgusted with them for being dishonest that we are going tomorrow picking up our deposit and I dont want to give them my business. I called the Mia Solano office and left a nasty msg telling them what their retailers are doing with their dresses.

If they gave me the dress for free tomorrow I might not take it I was so mad at them for treating not just customers, but BRIDES so poorly! Its not like this is just a dress its THE dress. My fiance told me if they dont fix it he will put them out of business himself...probably a little dramatic but its an idea! I looked on craigslist and didnt see much, gonna go speedshop at 2 bridal stores tomorrow and see if anyone has any size 8 in stock new dresses. Emily thank you so much for the offer! I am gonna attempt to find the style I originally wanted....white, fitted, drop waist with corset back. If I cant find that in the next few days then I might just buy anything! Thanks for listening everyone...I was so beside myself I just had to share this crazy story!

You may be able to find something off the rack at David's Bridal or Alfred Angelo. You are in NYC so I would think you have a lot of places to try if you have a few crazy rushed dress shopping days!

Oh I'm so sorry that's happened to you. A friend of mine went to a wedding where the bride (who was like, 6 months pregnant) had ordered a dress months in advance and was told a WEEK before the wedding that her dress hadn't come in. How awful!

O no! I am so sorry, I would be sick to my stomach. I truly hope everything works out for the better and how awful to hear that about that store. I sincerely feel for you. Look at the bright side, you have a completely clean and new opportunity to find a new dress. I suggest trying to browse around on some wedding dress sites such as

    http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/

    http://www.bravobride.com/

    http://www.oncewed.com/

    http://www.recycledbride.com/

I really hope that helps. Please keep us posted.

If it's THE dress could they sell you the sample for a deep deep discount (or for your deposit alone)? Or is it not your size?

I'd tell them I want them to have the sample professionally cleaned and altered free of charge and that I'm not giving them any more money. It's the only way they could turn around this terrible situation.

I don't think I'd trust them with any situation. The dress cleaning/altering is a good idea but they might say they'll do it and then not. You don't have time to fool around with them. I would suggest if they give you any flack whatsoever about returning your money that you will report them to the BBB AND relay your story to every online wedding site and yellowpages that you can find (I'll help you with this- I'm an online marketer). They WILL give you your money.

Did you happen to pay by credit card? If so, you may have some protection there. I'd give the cc co. a call, too.

OMG. I am so so sorry. I can't believe they can/will/did do something like that to a bride!!!! That is so horirble.

There has been so many horrible dress missing stories lately I feel the need to call about my dress arrival time. And when it gets in to go look at it ASAP.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I truly hope it works.

Going on a search fury for you!!!

That really sucks but I think you are right for focusing on the fact that you will walk down the isle to the man you love no matter what dress you are wearing.

I just want to put my thoughts in here though.  You seem to be very upset at them for "screwing you over".  Do you know for sure that they tried to sell you the sample dress?  It sounds like it very easily could have been an honest mistake by the store.  Maybe they recently had a bride in there who was going to buy the sample and they instead gave her your new dress (ie, the got switched somehow).  Please just do some research to understand the situation before trying to put someone out of business over what might be an honest mistake.

Thank you all for your good advice and ideas! Here is the update!! So I called the company today myself, spoke to a rep and told them what happened. They told me no way I could have my original dress in the next week or two and the only one available brand new was a different color. I went back to the store to talk to the owner. They cannot tell me clearly what happened and it does not seem like it was an honest mistake because no one will give me a straight answer in that store as to what happened. They dont even have the paperwork to show me that it was infact ordered, shipped and delivered to the store. The place is a mess.

I told the owner that I am going to every bridal store in the next 24 hrs to find a dress that is in stock somewhere, is new and beautiful and will be here by next week and that he will return my deposit and pay the difference because what they did was wrong. I went to the first bridal store on the way home with my mother. As we walked in the woman told me they were closing but I told her i had 30 days to my wedding and no dress! These people were amazing at Kelly's creations in brooklyn ny. I told them what I wanted, the style and price range. 5 dresses later we found the NEW perfect one. I think maybe I am just not really that picky by nature and that I just want to look beautiful on this one day when I walk down that aisle and marry the man of my dreams that I have waited for my whole life. It must be luck, they called up maggie sottero, had the dress in stock, in my size, brand new, in the White color I wanted. It is being 2day shipped to brooklyn and should be here by Tuesday! I will give an update on wednesday when I hopefully go for the fitting! I am knocking on wood!!!

I think this dress is actually better than the first one and the owner held up his end of the bargain. I picked up my deposit and he paid for the rest of the cost of the dress, the alterations and shipping fees. So I hope whoever has my first dress is happy with it and I will be happy with this one!

Lesson learned: It is not about the dress...its about the next 100 years I want to spend together with the most amazing man on earth.

My new dress is the maggie sottero brianna!

Well, it can happen when you go to a small shop --- small shops can lack in organization :)

However you might be able to find something else at a bigger store.

Thanks everyone for reading my horror story! :) It will be officially over next week when I can see and touch the dress and know its mine!

Till then I can only go by the fact that she called maggie sottero in front of me, they gave her a confirmation number and presumably with 2 day delivery it will be there by tuesday/wednesday. If it is not there then we are gonna have another problem but I won't worry about that till next week. Will keep all the bee's posted on the progress! Hoping for a happy dress ending next week!!!

Sitting here waiting for tuesday to come so I can get my dress...I hope!!!! I am hoping that this woman at the store is really gonna make this happen. I keep thinking what if. Good thing is one of my friends who had a beautiful Lazarro dress told me she cleaned it and preserved it after her wedding and would give it to me if i needed. So at least I know there is a beautiful dress I can wear if all else fails...I am not sure if there is some superstition about wearing another person's dress on your wedding day.

Here is another update...I emailed ABC channel 7's "on your side" segment where they go help people who have been screwed over or taken advantage of. I told them my situation and they told me that if it doesnt work out, and that this second place takes advantage of me and doesnt produce a dress by next week to call them and they will do a segment on the news!!! So a big thank you to channel 7 for being on my side in case i need them next week!!! I figured it was worth a shot to email them because if a store doesn't want to talk to me, they will not like hearing negative things about them on tv!

Here is to hoping for good karma and hoping that 2 stores wont try to screw you over in 1 week, 29 days before the wedding. Still excited even though I have no dress in my possession! Fiance is proud of me for not freaking out and going bridezilla on him lol I guess I can stomp my feet and yell but it wont produce a dress!

-Hopefully not naked bride for much longer :) Will let everyone know on tues/wed. if I actually get to see a dress with my name on it!

So a final update! Good karma has finally come back to me and not freaking out worked!!! I went to the second store today, they had my dress, a brand new beautiful maggie sottero brianna!!! All mine :) I had my first fitting, 18 days before the wedding....they assured me we will have time for a 2nd fitting just in case so I go back on may 18th for round 2 although it fits me almost perfectly. All is well that ends well and I dont have to be a naked bride!! Although I already have a jim hjelm ivory dress at home that I borrowed from a good friend of mine in case all else failed and 2 stores in a row failed to produce a wedding dress! No worries...I get to have my own  :) SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this dress even more than the first one i picked out! Not to mention, this one came with the bolero which I need just for the huppah ceremony so I didn't even have to have it made. Sometimes things are just meant to be :)
