@kgrnbrg299: What is your price range?
I went to the following salons in NYC:
RK Bridal - they don't take appointments but have a HUGE selection of dresses. Price range from a few $100 to about $3,000. More of a "warehouse" feel but it was a great place for my first appointment because I really got a feel for lots of different dress styles and silhouettes. Try to go on a weekday morning, weekends get crowded.
Wedding Atelier - smaller salon. Appointment only. Dresses are arranged by style/embellishment type. Dresses start around $2,500
Sak's Bridal Salon - Very nice but dresses are all back in a stock room so you can't browse yourself. Start around $3,000
Amsale - nice salon. Dresses nicely displayed but selection seems pretty small. Starts around $2,500
Gabriella - AMAZING salon, great owner. Really homey space. Lots of great dresses by many different and more obscure designers (where I bought my dress). Starting around $3,000
Pronovias - Flagship store in midtown is REALLY cool. Multiple stories of dresses. Online catalogs to look through. Gorgeous lace dresses and the fit is fantastic. Starting around $700 or so.
VeKa - pretentious and expensive (I think never asked a price) don't go there unless you are the same size as a runway model. Their samples won't fit and they'll make you feel bad about yourself.
ETA: I never went to either Kleinfeld's or David's
I would just drive an extra 15 minutes into North New Jersey and buy a dress tax-free if I were you!
@Lynz407: With most of these places if you have the dress shipped to another state (i.e. where they don't have a store location) you don't have to pay tax. Just shipping.
Kleinfeld has sample sales, their dresses are beautiful and can be affordable, you should schedule when they have sample sales, got mine for $600 and I loved it-style and price! cried when as soon as I wore it, their dresses really are amazing truly exquisite, you really see the quality
went to David's Bridal, RK Bridal and this other bridal shop close to Kleinfeld, I forgot the name the owner gets samples from fashion shows by appointment only, all of them very affordable ranging between $600 to $1200 (I wanted to look good but didnt want to blow a small fortune)but none had anything I fell in love with, saved Kleinfeld for last, part of the wedding gown hunting experience in NY
I vote for RK bridal. But you need to go during a weekday at 11 am (when they first open). I thought the service was fabulous, I didn't have to wait and got undivided attention of my consultant. We started pulling dresses without looking at the price tags, but I took a look at couple and was please to see $600 & $800.

Can anyone recommend a good bridal store on Long Island, NY or NYC? I need to start looking and have no clue. I've heard some horror stories from David's Bridal. The only other store I really know is Klienfelds in NYC, but I am thinking they might be out of my price range (anyone see the show "say yes to the dress").
Thanks Ladies!
