@His_Swallow: Gowns range from under $100 to tens of thousands of dollars.

David’s Bridal posts their prices online so you can get an idea on price.

Depending on the designer you could be looking at $1,000 starting price point or a $5,000 starting price point.

Well, I bought mine for under 1000$ and it’s vintage. I don’t know what prices are like in Canada… but I know people who spent a couple hundred and people who spent a few thousand. If you watch wedding shows on TV, it seems like 2-5k seems to be the norm. If you’re trying to stay on the low end, think about online vendors, Etsy and Ebay.

@His_Swallow: You figure out your overall budget first. Then lots of websites (like theknot.com and others) have a wedding budget calculate where it suggests what % of your budget should be used for what.

It depends on how important different aspects of the wedding are to you.

My dress will be about 7%-10% of the total budget.

@KatNYC2011: <– what she said. 🙂

But my dress was $749, before alterations and accessories. My budget was $800, so I did pretty well.

@His_Swallow:I’ve noticed that wedding dress prices are cheaper in the US. One of the Maggie Sottero dresses I initially wanted was going to cost me $1400 here in Alberta. In the US, it would have cost only $900.

I didn’t know exactly what to budget for a wedding dress until the first time I went to try on dresses. I went in thinking I could get a dress for no more than $700-800, but the midpoint of most dresses I tried on in that salon was about $1200.

Lol Darling Husband asked me to give him an amount I wanted to spend on my dress as well when we first got engaged – I had NO clue

I ended up spending about $850 on my dress and about $400 on my alterations so total $1250ish
