My mom pulled her dress out of the basement this weekend and I am considering wearing it for my wedding in October. It is a little yellow and has a couple stains near the hem but other than that it’s in really good shape. Does anyone know how I can clean the dress so that it is no longer yellow? Do I have to take it somewhere to be professionally cleaned? If so, any recommendations for the AA area (also willing to go anywhere in the metro-Detroit area).
Also, I would like some alterations made to the dress so that it is a bit more modern and my own. Does anyone know of a place that might specialize in wedding dress reconstruction? Is that even a thing or would I take it to a normal seamstress? Thanks for your help- I just don’t know where to start.

You will need to take it to a professional cleaner to get their assessment. Do it early so you’re not blind-sided at the last minute if the dress cannot be restored for some reason. Keep in mind that wedding dresses are delicate things and you may never be able to get the yellow or the stains out. If that would change your mind about wanting to wear the dress, make sure you have a plan B.
If you do get it cleaned, you are probably looking at a couple of hundred dollars in cleaning costs. Dry-cleaning wedding dresses is notoriously pricey, so make sure you budget for that. If you get it altered, take it to a seamstress with a decent amount of experience in working with wedding dresses since they tend to be quite complicated to work with and are easy to screw up.

I recommend either BridalKare($119-$140) they cleaning/preservation co so if atone can get a stain and yellowing it would be them or Wedding Gown Preservation co ($149)
