When I posted yesterday as to the order of cleaning and altering my vintage wedding dress, someone said I might have to get it restored, rather than just cleaned. I had never heard of restoring before!
Now I’m concerned. My dress was custom made in the 1970s for the original bride. It was worn once and had been put away since. There’s no stains, discoloration, etc. Nothing seem fragile about it – the material is taffeta and lace.
I’m having a hard enough time tracking down someone who will clean a wedding dress (so many cleaners by me won’t touch wedding dresses of any age), so I can’t imagine how to start finding someone who will restore it and how much that would cost!
Is there a way to determine if a gown needs to be restored or if a regular cleaning will be suffice?
