Yep, this is a very common & typical scam!  I would keep your eye on your bank account over the next few days as well.

Sorry to hear it!  🙁

@katiemkelly: Uh, you do realize that this is one of the biggest scams on ebay and all these other sites right? I’m glad the check bounced. Usually, it’s a cashier’s check that you cash at your bank and then two weeks later your bank would come after you for the money meanwhile the ‘lady’ would have disappeared. Thank God you caught this in time.

You should get a paypal account and ONLY send the item when you have recieved payment. You should also just add shipping costs into your selling price.

Similar thing happened to me..and it’s through paypal.  I would be careful..it’s really disheartened that people would be so lame and dishonest.

Oh no, I’m so glad that you waited until the check cleared.  It’s hard to trust websites when making transactions.

This is a SUPER COMMON scam. You were actually really lucky,. I know it doesn’t sound like it, but sometimes they actually clear, and then it takes two weeks to show that there isn’t any money there. Then there are way more fees than just the $10 canceled check fee.

So sad this happened to you, but really glad you posted about it to keep reminding people. If someone offers you too much money DO NOT DEPOSIT IT. They will ask for the money back, and you will give them real money, but their money is fake.

Same thing..a woman wanted to buy my dress, then she had her friend send payment through paypal (different name).  When I got payment (pending and not deposited into my account UNTIL I put in the shipping information), it was $100 more than what I listed the dress for.  I told her she sent the wrong amount and that I wouldn’t send her the dress because I haven’t received payment (still pending).  What got me to that point was that she never even asked to see photos of the dress, didn’t ask the measurements…nothing.  I never heard from her again.

I just mean I would factor the shipping cost into your selling cost, or say up front that a certain amount of shipping will be added so that you don’t have to worry about a seperate transaction or labels for shipping.

I think you should use paypal account, and send the dress after the money in the  account.
