One of my bridesmaids was in town for a couple of days this week – and we sort of decided last minute that it’d be fun to go wedding dress shopping together. I hadn’t been dress shopping at all prior, and I didn’t want to start looking ‘for real’ until my mom and sister could be with me, so the two of us just went for fun – and to sort of get an idea as to what sort of styles I liked before I started shopping seriously.
We ended up going to David’s bridal – since it was close by, and because I’d read online that appointments weren’t necessary. Here are some pictures. (Sorry, I don’t know the names of any of the dresses!)
Picture #1 : First time trying on a wedding dress, ever! It was so weird!!
Picture #2 – I just tried this huge ballgown on for fun, knowing that it would look rediculous on me.
Picture #3 – This dress someone made my body look very straight – which it’s not … ?
Picture #4 – I hate this photo, my face looks weird in it – and I think that this dress does absolutely nothing for my figure.
Picture #5 – This was my favorite dress out of the ones I tried on. I liked everything about it except for the neckline.
Picture #6 – In a wedding dress AND a veil! I think that was the first dress again.
That’s it for now. Comments and critiques are more than welcome!

It’s interesting that you say #4 does nothing for your figure, because I think you look stunning in it! But now you know how you feel about styles of dresses – I think it sounds like you want to go down the fit and flare/mermaid route, and they’re going to look fantastic on you! 🙂 Happy dress hunting!

i love 1 and 5 and as pengoala said it looks like you might go down the mermaid/fit and flare route which will look amazing on you – you have a gorgeous figure 🙂

@pengoala: I agree.
I LOVE dress #4 on you! You look stunning and the dress looks like it was made for you.
That dress is by far and away my favorite.
That said, the mermaid dresses look fantastic on you as well. You have a great figure. You will look awesome in whatever you choose.

There’s one piece of advice I would like to give you. Don’t pick a dress just becuase the sample fits you the best (close to your size) You need to look past the large sizing and remember that details can be changed like the corset/zipper and neckline. Some designers will even allow you to add metres to a train. If there is something you don’t quiet like, mention it and ask what can be done before you disregard the dress all together.
One last piece of advice, don’t ever buy a dress the day you tried it on, as exciting as it is and I know how easy it is to get catch up in the moment, walk away and go back the following week with a clear head and retry it on. I tried on alot of gowns and there were a few I could of purchased that day but when i went back the following week I was surprised that I would have made a mistake. When you see alot in one day the details can start to merge together.
Oh and dress 4 is my fav on you hands down.

I think #4 is super pretty on you as well, but if it isn’t “you”, don’t get it.
Enjoy dress shopping!! It is so much fun 🙂

I love numbers 1 and 4 on you. Both are so pretty and flattering.

Thanks ladies! It’s actually sort of funny that I don’t really like dress number four – because I always thought that I’d prefer an a-line. (I’ve never really liked my hips, and I thought I’d like a dress best where they were covered/hidden.)
@Bride7844: That’s great advice, thanks! 🙂

Once #4 is fitted to your curve it will look amazing! I have never seen that dress before it must not be on the website. You have inspired me to go to David’s Bridal!

@Carley7.6.13: Thanks, and I’m sorry that I don’t know the name/designer of dress number four. I will try to find out for you! 🙂

@Sheesh19: Yea, I think you’re right. I remember really loving the buttons on the back of it. The dress itself is/was beautiful, but I personally think that it looks much better on the model than it does on me. (I’m 5’3 for referece by the way, and a size 0/2.)
Edit: So I guess dress four is the all around favorite – but I’ve decided to add a poll. Thanks to everybody who commented, I’m still really excited about this whole ‘wedding dress shopping’ thing. (I didn’t think that I would be!)
