Downtown isn’t going to be the best area of town for dress shopping; it’s pretty much offices, lunch spots and a few places to live.

Fairly centrally located (i.e. not 20 miles from downtown) are several areas that are known for being trendy or expensive shopping districts.  There are some high end Bridal Shops there -Highland Village has at least one; there’s a Winnie Couture Shop in West University, Montage Bridal isn’t too far from there either, and I know a few people who loved that shop.

There is a store that consigns (and sometimes rents) gowns – i.e. these are not brand new…. Milad Bridal Boutique.

There are also some large David’s Bridal Stores, and there’s a Bridal Depot – they have a sign on what looks like an office building, I’ve never been in; so if you visit – let us know about that one!

Without knowing more about your tastes/budget/where you are in your planning (are you just trying on dresses, or are you ready to pick “the dress”) I’m not sure that I can be very helpful.

Houston DOES have a fairly active yelp.com community though, and I know that there are bridal shops reviewed on that site.

These aren’t downtown, but the 2 big places in Houston most brides visit- Ventura’s and Weddings by Debbie.

I visited 2 bridal salons in Houston and both were wonderful!! Check out my ‘dress journey’ http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/my-dress-journey-warning-long-038-incredibly-pic-heavy

I bought my dress from Ivory Bridal Atelier and had a wonderful experience. The dresses were gorgeous, the store was beautiful & the staff were helpful.

Houston Bridal Gallery was also great (lots of beautiful pronovias gowns!!)

I also went to BHLDN…..just for the experience…I loved it!

I loved Ventura’s Bridal off the north 610 loop. They carry designers in all price ranges. I bought my dress there and had a wonderful experience! BIG PLUS: If you buy a dress on your first visit, you’ll get a pretty nice discount!

@futuremrskgt:  I had a great experience at Ventura too, if any other Houston brides are looking for bridal shops – Ventura worked out well for me! Honestly I was surprised at what a huge selection they had, I tried on about 20 dresses and that was just a drop in the bucket compared to their total inventory. They gave me a 15% discount, too – and I bought my dress the second day I went there, so you might not even have to buy your dress the first day to get the discount.
