I wouldn't order a dress without seeing it on yourself first. I don't know of any places other than DB that has plus size dresses to try on (but then again, I got my dress there, and went there 4 times before getting the dress). I'd actually say that the service there was better than the bridal salons I went to before DB, because they were sooo snotty and put so much pressure on me!
If you're willing to drive 6 hours north, there is a store in Sacramento that specializes in plus size gowns. It's all they carry, and there is a large selection. All of them good quality and very pretty! I bought my dress there and I highly recommend their service!
What's the name of the store in Sacramento? Do they have designer gowns?
Thank you!
@Bride2be15: Strut in Phoenix specializes in plus sizes. You would be able to get in every dress in their store. Good luck!
I have to agree with mrsromo. If you make the six hour drive east there is Strut Bridal. I absolutely loved working with Ann, she's great. I am and 18/20 and most dresses were still too big for me so there are easily a ton of dresses you could try on. I highly recommend that store.
@Bride2be15: The store in Sacramento is called Sparkle. It's located on Folsom and 32nd in Midtown. I'm not sure of all the designers they carry but I bought a Robin Jillian there. The owner is very nice and she's the one that did my appointment.
And as you're driving up to Sacramento, stop at Trudy's in San Jose. Most dresses I tried on there were too big for me and I'm plus size. They had heaps for me to try on!
I live in Indianapolis, and I am shopping for a dress. I am a plus size bride, and would like some suggestions for dress shops.
@Irolp04: Debra's Bridal in Upland CA is where I found my amazing dress. I am a 22/24 and they have more than enough dresses to choose from. Hope that helps
I was going to go to the store in Sacramento, it's called Sparkle I think. I asked the saleslady what designers they carried and she would not tell me! What the heck? I told her I live in Antioch, and that I don't want to make the long drive to Sacramento if I don't know what designers they carry. She told me "Well it sounds like you have already made up your mind then." omg how rude!
Gesinee's in Concord had a whole plus size room, I would say about 30-50 dresses there.
My dream is to open a plus size bridal salon, but I have no funds :( and my credit score is bad after buying a house and taking on a lot of debt, so I don't qualify for a loan either :(
If you ever make it out to Phoenix there ia a great plus size wedding gown shop called Strut.
@CynthiaJ: The designers at Sparkle are not well known, at least I had never heard of them. The dresses are hit and miss...some are amazing and some well not my personal taste.
None the less I highly recommend a stop. They have something for every bride and the sample sizes are definitely accomodating to a variety of plus sizes.
I had an incredibly bad experience at Gesinee, my consultant was terribly rude. When I went back and was thankfully given a new consultant the old consultant swooped in and started a fight with the new lady. I couldn't get out of there fast enough!
I bought my d
ess at Sparkle Bridal Couture in Sacramento. I absolutely LOVE it... but the owner did something I was not so happy about. My wedding is October 6th 2012 and I went in to the store and tried on dresses in October. We visited 2 times so that my sister could also see the dress. My mom explained to Sandra the owner that I was dieting and had just started up Pilates and had lost about 25 pounds and was still losing. So she asked if we have 12 months when should we order. Sandra kept insisting to order now. We started to feel a lot of pressure from her and ended up being talked in to it. We left the deposit of 50% with the remaining amount to be paid in the next 30 days. 10 days later Sandra had an event at Sparkle that I attended. On the walls they had signs stating if you made an appointment that night to try on dresses, even if u had been in before and purchased your dress the day of your appointment they would give you 20% off. Well when you are buying a dress that comes to $2800, 20% is a lot!!!! I wrote Sandra an email and explained I thought since my dress purchase was not final yet because the last payment had not been made that I should get the 20% off. And if not on the whole balance AT LEAST on the remaining 50%. She said NO! I really left with a bitter feeling that she had purposely talked us in to purchasing the dress 10 days before the event. A few other things that happened after that gave me a bitter feeling, I emailed Sandra and asked her who made my dress for a bridal scrapbook I was filling out. She replied with your dress is made by "Sparkle Bridal Couture". ??? I didnt ask the name of her business I asked who made the design for my almost 3k wedding dress. When we were in the store she raved about where the fabrics were made etc so I asked here where exactly is my dress made. She said "As for our dresses, yes we do bring in certain designers dresses and we have SPARKLE gowns. We ensure our gowns are made with high-quality weaves of bridal fabric and unique laces and ornamentation sourced from around the world and then gowns are produced overseas. Did you know that 98% of bridal gowns are produced in foreign countries?" THAT was her response? Still not really answering my question.
I am a business owner and I am in the wedding industry. If this had happened I would have by all means given my customer the 20% off just so that they would feel at ease. Not to mention I could have sent her a lot of business. Typically businesses in the wedding industry will do a lot of trade, and discounts for each other since we send referrals so often. Not the case here at all.
It makes me really sad that even though I love my dress I really feel awkward about the whole situation. Kind of taken advantage of. What do you guys think
r?
Hey all!
Thanks for the wonderful suggestions. I will look into all of these!

@MsKandA You should definitely leave a review on Yelp of the store. I did, and the reviews help future shoppers decide where to shop and purchase. To me, she was nice - a little rigid - but I didn't end up purchasing from her. She was also pretty pushy about ordering ASAP, but the other store was able to get the dress two months before her timeline.
Also, she DEFINITELY should've offered you the discount!

I feel so conflicted. I went on my first wedding dress try on experience yesterday and it went ok... I think. The consultant at the shop was able to help me into TWO wedding dresses (one of them nice and the other not so much). Now, take into consideration that I am a usual size 20/22. I did find a dress that I LOVED. I discovered while dress shopping that a dropped waistline looks best on me and also helps me out. This particular dress had a lot of factors that would accentuate my good areas. However, I was unable to try it on because the sample size was too small.
As many posts on here have indicated, it seems hard to find a bridal shop in any area (apart from DB and Alfred Angelo) that carries larger sample sizes. However, I was wondering if any of you in the Los Angeles area have come across other stores that carries larger samples. I would like to avoid DB and AA due to their poor customer service reputation and other reasons.
I do have some time before my wedding, but I feel that I may have to resort to just ordering a dress I have not tried on (which I’m scared to do).
Help please!
