wear granny panties!!! it's really hard to feel comfortable in front of a stranger when you're wearing itty bitty undies. a strapless bra helps too!
they have veils and are good at choosing one to go with the specific style of dress, so don't worry about that.
i wore a good strapless bra and a "girdle" type undies to hold everything in and smooth everything out! hahaha
i wore a little sundress - easy to take off and put back on after - or maybe b/c it was 80degrees that day???
HAVE FUN SHOPPING!!!
Temperatures here are way below freezing, so I wore jeans and a sweater and a down jacket. I don't know if undergarments make a big difference; I tried most stuff on braless, figuring that I can tell what it would look like; and depending on the styles you try a regular strapless bra will go waaaay above the back of the dress. Most styles now actually seem to require one of those stick-on types. I am figuring that the actual undergarments won't make too much difference untill fittings.
I did wish I had brought a pair of heels, as every dress was really long (and I am not short - 5'6"). And for styles with a stiff slip, it helps you to tell how it fits in the bodice if the dress is not four inches taller than you. I spent a lot of time standing on my toes.
Ahh yes a sundress would be fabulous, although since it's going to be 35 degrees in Manhattan that day... hmmm!
Will definitely wear the granny panties and bring a pair of heels. What a sexy combination! Thanks for the advice ladies, anyone else?
I wore boy shorts since they cover like granny panties but are a lot cuter. Who cares if you can see the colored ones throught the dresses. You'll only be wearign them for a few minutes. I brought a strapless bra but they have the ful bustie (sp) type there which both suck it in and help you get an idea of what you should buy for your dress. On the outside I wore a simple dress that I could pull over my head so that I could wear heals to the store. I'm super short so heals are absolutly necessary. Even the petites (the few that I could find are really long on me.)
I second the convertible strap bra - but with clear straps. That way you can kind of get the strapless look but it's a lot more secure - all of that pulling on and off dresses in a regular strapless is bound to lead to...a flashing of the headlights...
I wish I would've known the helper lady ( I don't even know their title) at one of the stores I went to came inside the dressing room with you. Definitely wear granny panties! I'm sure they don't wanna see your cheeks! ha ha The last shop I went to I wore granny-ish panties except for the fact that they had monkies on them. Oops! And the dress I tried on was so thin you cold see it. Oh well.. We all had a good laugh.
I would also suggest that you bring a digital camera. I didn't and I wish I had!
this is one time grannies rock - first time i wore the "girdle" type - 2nd time i wore boy cuts with... HELLO KITTY - how old am i??? hahaha
some salons wont allow pics b/c they think your'e going to look for it at another salon or a "knowck-off" version - i went to one where they cut the tags off every dress in there...
my first appt was this past wed and I didnt come prepared. I'm about a size 12-14 in wedding dresses and since the average 'try on dress' is an 8-10 that means lots of flab hanging out.
I tried on dresses again last night and wore my spanx and it helped A LOT. I go bra-less, but that's just me. these girls see boobs and flab every hour.
My salon would not let you take pictures either. And the dresses had little discrete tags with just the price - sort of hidden. Like in Neiman Marcus mens' where the $1500 suits have the price tag basted to the back side of the lapel. Although they were very good and did not show me any dresses outside of the price range I gave them.

Am going on round #1 of dress shopping this weekend, and was wondering what you're supposed to wear.....
I know it sounds silly, but what did you all wear in terms of undergarments? Did you dress casual? Did you bring a "practice" veil and jewelry with you?
