    @bunchesbob:

    I am getting married on February 18th of next year in southern Ca. I am having an outdoor wedding so I don't want the flowers to overpower the natural beauty of the venue, but I do want some flowers. My colors are peach, yellow, and brown and green. I have no idea what I want or how much to budget for my flowers. I do know that I will be using bud vases for the center peices, but I'm not sure what do put in it. Any ideas?

    @bunchesbob: Im having such trouble picking out florals for our December 18th Wedding! A Sunday evening wedding, a week before Christmas, the stage is going to be full of Red Poinsettias; Teal Blue is my accent color, Bridesmaids are wearing Charcoal Grey. Am I stuck with Poinsettias or just Roses for our Ceremony Bridal/Bridesmaids Bouquets!? Suggestions would be lovely!

    And any DIY suggestions?

    Thank you for being so generous in sharing your knowledge with us!!

    @fifi218:

    Hi Fifi218,

    First of all, have you decided what flowers you want to carry?  If it's an outdoor wedding, I would suggest something garden or woodsy look.  As for the vases, the flowers should match with what you are carrying, that way you have a theme running through the whole wedding.  Is the reception going to be outside or under a tent?  why I'm asking is, you have to allow for wind, therefore, the vases should have a wide base , so as not to fall over. So some suggestions,  maybe a couple of yellow lilly stems with some branches or a couple of Gerberas with some branches.  I hope this helps.  Bunches Bob

    Hi cupcakemeg

    There are such a variety of flowers available at Christmas.  Suggestion, I would keep it simple, stick to white, simply because you have all the red surrounding you and your colours charcoal and teal blue.  Suggestions, white miniature calla lillies, white or blue hydrangeas, white cymbidium orchids and white roses.  If you want to keep with the christmas theme, add some silver balls.  Hope this helps.  Bunches Bob

    @bunchesbob: well there will be 19 tables and one head table. I would like to spend around $400 total for everything. I was thinking of doing bud vases with one or two blooms in each and creating more of a table scaping rather than center pieces, but I don't know what types of flowers to use. Since I am getting married in february, I don't know if any nice flowers will be in season.

    Hi I was wondering I'm having my wedding march 23 on a Friday evening and doing my own flower arrangements ,I wanted to know how far in advance can I do my arrangments? I will have hydrangeas and roses. Should I get my flowers 2-3 days in advance or will they wilt?

    I would love some professional input:

    I am getting married in late Spetember, and would love to use real dried Lunaria seed pods (silver dollar plants).

    I haven't seen any real ones in stores at all, however, only plenty of plastic ones.

    How expensive are they? Is cost prohibitive or is there some other reason than I have only seen the plastic ones?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi NanaluvzGeo

    Yes you can get your flowers 2 days before the wedding.  Here are some tips.

    Hydrangeas- Cut them down to the length you want for the arrangements, the shorter the better,  Put in very warm water, mist the heads with cool water,  if they droop later on,  cut again and put in very very warm water again and mist again.

    Roses- Take foliage of stem part that goes in water,  cut at an angle and put in very, very warm water.  Remember, heat rises and gets the water to the bloom fast. Mist the heads with cool water.  If they droop later, ( roses a notorius for getting air bubbles in their stems.  recut again, same procedure.  Keep in cool place, if you have access to a cooler, so much the better.  Bunches Bob

    @Ivorybuttons:

    Silver dollar plants are only available in the fall, they should be available in September.  Get them at farmers markets, maybe at garden centers, were they would be more reasonable.  They are more expensive in retailers who specialize in dried and silk flowers and fresh flowers.  Remember they are brittle, so handle gently.   Bunches Bob

    Hi Anglezluv

    I haven't used them myself recently, I can't tell you dollarwise what you would pay, all I can say is, they are expensive.  Try a garden centre in your area.  Bunches Bob

    @bunchesbob:  I would LOVE advice.

    We're getting peonies from a farmer, at $1.00 / stem.  We'll be getting light pink peonies mainly, and perhaps some cream ones too.

    The farmer has told us that he will cut the peonies in late July and refrigerate them for a week when they are in their closed bulb state.  Since we're in Canada, our peony season is much later, and I've seen peonies in full bloom in the middle of August.  So I'm not worried there.

    We'll be having 12 tables, with multiple flower vessels per table.  Some photos of inspiration we have are:

    Wedding Flower Tips and Advice from Bunches Bob : wedding bunches bob wedding flowers flowers diy advice bunches direct flower tips flower care how to make wedding bouquets flower expert Vintage3

    We will be having 1 vintage teapot, and 2-4 milk glass pieces per centerpiece.

    My questions for you:

    1) How many peonies do you think we'll need?  I was thinking anywhere from 300-450.

    2) What "filler" do you suggest for peonies?  We'll have double peonies, so they are pretty large.

    3) We were thinking of also buying some bulk garden roses in cream, and maybe even some mini-hydragena, to arrange in with the peonies.  Do you think that would work?  Or do you think we should just stick with peonies?

    Thanks!

    Lemma    June 9, 2012   Ontario

    Hi Bunches Bob, thanks for offering to help. I'm hoping to have lilacs for my bouquet and centerpieces, but I'm worried that it will be too difficult to do because they are seasonal flowers. Where I am, lilacs tend to bloom any time from early May to late June, but it varies depending on the weather that year.

    Do you think this is something a florist could do? If so, approximately how much is it likely to cost?

    Hi Bunches Bob, thanks for starting this post! I will be getting married in Northern CA in the beginning of July.  We plan to do the bouquets and centerpieces ourselves.  I tend to like softer flowers (peonies, garden roses) and want to have a mix of flowers, textures, and shades of red and/or white.  The only limitation would be that I would prefer not to use traditional roses.  What types of red or white flowers would be available in NorCal in early July?  Thanks!

    @Lemma:

    Hi Lemma

    Based the number of containers you are using, I would say you will need maybe 200 peonies.  Teapot 4, other containers 2 each (depending on the size of the containers).  Unless you are using the peonies elseware as well.

    I would suggest for filler use garden roses only, in a floral arrangement you want  a variety of shapes and sizes.  Keep it simple, so as not to take away from the peonies, since thats your theme.  Bunches Bob

    @Lemma:

    Sorry Lemma, I answered Jacinda's question instead of yours.

    Anyway, your question about lilacs.  Today Lilacs are imported for florists, and can be pricey, you have to check with your local florist, for price and availability, depending on what time of year you are getting married. and yes your local florist can do it.  Bunches Bob

    @SunnySquirrel:

    Hi SunnySquirrel,

    In todays flower market, there is such a variety of flowers available.  Since you are doing it yourself, you will want to buy in bulk.  Check with bulk suppliers, such as Bunches Direct.  When you call them be very specific.  You mentioned red.  Is it a rosy red or bright red, (peonies come in rosy red).  Since you like softer flowers, you will have to check with them to see what is available then.  Garden roses, maybe carnations, baby's breath tends to soften the look.  I hope this helps you.  Bunches Bob

    I am getting married March 24th I want to do tulips pretty much all tulips. Maybe a few orchids thrown in for color.  How early can I order them to be delivered? How would I store them to keep them fresh?

    I would get them at least 3 days before, because they will be tight and won't show there colour.  When you get them, cut them and put them in room temperature water.  You will notice that they will fall over, that's natural.  leave them out of the cooler and in few hours they will stand up straight again, and when you see they are showing colour, put them in the cooler.  Tulips keep growing after they are cut.  If you want the process to go faster, put them in wram water.  Bunches Bob

    I'm having a hard time IDing some greenery in a bouquet I like. I took this pic to a flower shop and I think I must have gotten an employee who didn't know what she was talking about because she had no idea what it is. It's the little seed looking green things, one is on the right side of the pic below the calla lily.

    Hi Bunches Bob! Thanks for answering questions. I have a ton of milkglass vases to fill with blooms for my August wedding. I do plan to use so Queen Anne's lace which grows everywhere in August but need some more blooms. As you could see some of the vases are quite large. Do you have any suggestions on how to keep costs low but still look amazing? Are some flowers better than others for an August evening outdoor wedding? Should I try my hand at growing some (though not crazy about that idea)? Wedding Flower Tips and Advice from Bunches Bob : wedding bunches bob wedding flowers flowers diy advice bunches direct flower tips flower care how to make wedding bouquets flower expert 10 1 11 084

    @secondchances:

    That's quite a collection of vases.  Since this is a outdoor wedding and you are using queen anne's lace, let's make it a garden look.  Starting with the thin vases, maybe 3 stems of lace and a snap dragon.  The bigger vases lace with some larger blooms, dahlias, zinnias and stocky flowers for height. The round low containers, use a block of oasis, soak it first put in the container, fill with more water and arrange the flowers, a variety of shapes and sizes.  The glass vases fill with water, make the arrangement in your hand and place it in the vase.  I would use warm water for all the arrangements and mist the heads with cool water. I would not worry about what colours go with what, since this is outdoors, make it colourful, like you are in a garden.  That time of the year, you can go to the farmers markets and pick up bunches of garden flowers very reasonable. If you go to a garden centre, you could probably find some geranium plants, cut the blooms off and use them in the arrangements, they stand up very well.  I hope this helps.  Bunches Bob

    @wmontano77:

    I am assuming that you are in white and the bridesmaids are in eggplant.  So I would suggest either, roses, miniature calla lilies. Since eggplant is a very strong deep colour, my suggestion is, stick to rosy shades, because eggplant colour is a combination of red and blue with black added to make it deep colour. Just use bright colours.  Bunches bob

    Hi bunchesbob. Thanks for the helping out us brides :). I am having a wedding in April 2012 in Florida and want 3 centerpieces with roses and peonies along with 3 centerpieces with carnation pomanders. What is a reasonable florist quote for something like this? Thanks in advance!

    @NanaluvzGeo:

    Hydrangeas are a fussy flower, they need lots of water. When you receive them, cut them down, because they usually have long stems, put in very warm water, mist the heads heavily with cool water.

    I assume you are using a wet oasis ball to arrange the flowers in.  You could put peonies and roses in the day before, hopefully you have access to a cooler to put them in,  then put the hydrangeas in the next morning, and mist some more.

    @vibride:

    I would say approximately $350.00 to $400.00, depending on what the florist charges for labour.  I am basing this on using, 6 roses, 5 peonies in each centre piece, and 24 carnations in each pomander.

    Thanks for offering your advice!!!

    I'm having a wedding in July. I love anemones but as they are out of season, I am ordering silk anemones. My Bridesmaids have purely white+black anemone bouquets, but for mine I'd like some other flowers mixed in.  What flowers can you suggest that would look nice with anemones (either white/ivory or green)

    Thanks!

    Here's a suggestion.  Since anemonies are a delicate looking flower, you could add some white freezia, which have the same look, and maybe add some silk ivy, cut it down and tuck it into the bouquet and maybe a few trailing a bit.  Bunches Bob

    Thanks for being so helpful!

    Outdoor wedding in August. There will be lots of Oak tree shade. Our tentative pallet is black and turquoise with orange and ivory accents. I LOVE lilies, not the calla lilies but the other ones. We are thinking DIY or cheap possibly a single tiger lily in a vase... will they be in season and available?

    Thanks!
