My wedding is THIS saturday!!!! Being from the south (Louisiana) we have done some cool stuff!! My menu is as follows:
-Mini Natchitoches, LA meat pies
-shrimp and grits
-mini cheese burgers with fries
-cajun turkey carving station with condiments
-pasta salad
-mini cherry tomatoes stuffed with crab
-fruit tree
-cheese tray
-spinach and artichoke dip
-shrimp etouffee
We had a shrimp and grits bar with assorted toppings (cheese, bacon, etc) and it was a big hit -- served in martini glasses.
A friend had some sushi rolls and different dumplings as passed apps and that was a nice change from the usual, and still conveniently bite-size and self-contained.
Also just had a squash soup at a sit-down meal a couple weeks ago and it was great -- everyone loved having a soup course and the flavors were perfect for the fall! Maybe a gazpacho or something in the summer?
I cannot wait for the bacon wrapped dates & mushroom risotto balls at my wedding.
One of my favorite things at our wedding was our soup: it was a chilled melon berry soup topped with crème fraiche. There was purred cantelope, honeydew and strawberries, and it was so good and refreshing in 80 degree weather!!

Some of my favorite passed apps have been (from my wedding and other weddings):
I just posted about our wedding menu so dont mind the copy and paste! I would LOVE to add either a mac and cheese bar or a mashed potato bar but I dont think I can find the room in my budget.
Surprisingly, I've never had food at a wedding that was anything to write home about. Everything has been pretty "blah" so I'm hoping to change that with our wedding.
I am absolutely in love with our grooms cake. I call it the "Junk Food Mountain" and I think it will be a big hit.
Cocktail Hour:
Mini Cheeseburger Sliders
French Fries in cones
Vegetable Platter
International Cheese Display
Dinner:
House or Caesar Salad
Rolls and Butter
Choice of:
Sirloin Steak
Chicken Cordon Bleu
Vegetarian
(served with choice of starch (roasted red potatoes) and vegetable (asparagus))
Dessert:
Wedding Cake
Grooms Cake (Junk Food Mountain - novelty desserts (twinkies, snoballs, ho-hos, funny bones, cupcakes, etc) piled in the shape of a mountain. Guests can pick desserts that they want to have with their cake.)
FI's obsessed with these desserts!
What kind of reception do you want? Seated dinnner? Buffet? passed apps and stations?
@lefeymw: We are def doing a seated meal, atleast 3 courses. For cocktail hour, we are actually going to create a farmers market type set up, and we really want to encourage great Vermont foods, as we are having the wedding there. I love innovative ideas!
@HardyPooleParty: We're doing a wedding in Maine and are doing a local cheeses table with apples and fresh apple cider. I love the "farmers market"/local feel.
@HardyPooleParty: ooh that sounds great!
I like the idea of a farmers market set up. I picture great marinated veggies (like an antipasta), local goat cheese and red pepper quesadillas, bruscetta with fresh tomatoes
One of the hors d'0euvres I cant wait for at mine is the Tuna Tartare served on a wonton crisp with a wasabi aioli
Brides on a budget!!!!! Check out Panda Express they cater and it's only $5.00 a head!!!!!
