springbee2015:  110% agree! I want our day to be fun! We’re planning on having lawn games at the cocktail hour, a prop for pictures as excort cards, photobooth (I know a bit overused but we love it and was the first thing we agreed on wanting even before we were engaged!) a fantastic DJ and hopefully a surprise apperance by a local team’s mascot!

springbee2015:  not weird at all! That’s how we wanted our day to feel, too. We did things a little differently in order to get that feeling. We did our ceremony at 11:30 am and had picnic sandwiches and food right away. Then we had a long gap before our cocktail hour and reception. Our venue was a 33-acre estate. I made a map of the venue and included all the different games and activities and their locations, as well as a map of the area surrounding our venue with all the wineries that do tastings. We had picnic blankets available, and tons of drinks and water available. Truthfully, I think the gap was the most fun anyone had over the course of the day. It’s possible to make your wedding day fun, but it might require some out-of-the-box thinking.

springbee2015:  this is exactly what we’re aiming for! Just a fun relaxed day where we happen to get married.  We’ve chosen a sweet but funny reading and are going to have very light hearted music during the ceremony so that it doesn’t feel too formal. Our favours are colouring/activity books that are all about us and hopefully amusing, there’s funny ssketches of the two of us to colour in and a sort of board game thing where you have to get from the start to the alter and funny things will be in the way to make you move forwards or backwards some spaces. Not sure what else we’ll do during the day though.

springbee2015:  it started when we went to FIs cousins wedding and one of the kids got really upset when BM etc gifts were handed out because he thought he was going to get a party bag so I said we’d have party bags when we get married which then went to activity bags and then to colouring books and as my FI is really artistic he decided he’d design them himself. They’ll all come with crayons, a novelty rubber, a pencil and a dice 🙂

We’re having an afternoon handfasting ceremony in a botanical garden. The guests have access to the gardens, and they provide lawn games for the reception. We’re having a short standard reception with speeches and cake, but it’s over by 5:30.

At supper time, we pack up and everyone is invited to a casual BBQ afterparty at my in-law’s. They have cottages on their lot that they rent out, so most of my family and friends will be staying on-site, which makes it easier to relax. There’s a pool, a firepit, and we’ll have a photobooth set up! I’m hoping the whole weekend will just be a big fun hangout. ^.^
