I am having a late morning wedding with a lunch reception, lakeside. Although I am having a full steel drum band, I don't really think the groom's crowd (which make up most of the 160 guests) are the dancing type. I was thinking that a nice addition might be some outdoor games that people can play if they like, or not. Maybe croquet, horseshoes, badmiton. These are all things that we play by the lake on a normal (minus croquet), so it could be fun. What do you think? We have quite a few children coming, so this might serve as entertainment for them as well. Any other suggested games?
Also I don't know if you are near any concrete but chalk is always fun for kids.
Bubbles too! I dont know how late it will go or if the sun will go down while you're still celebrating but sparklers are a really really fun addition and make for great pictures! Have fun!
We're having a riverside upscale BBQ reception and I'm thinking of doing the same thing! I think things like this will allow people to relax and interact more. It'll be more of a fun "family day" than a stuffy black tie wedding affair.
What about sack races or a three-legged race. Imagine the great photo op of you and your groom tied together racing in wedding attire! I saw it on a photogs blog an their facial expressions were priceless!
Frisbees and hula hoops should also keep the kiddies entertained. Plus they're inexpensive. You could buy a few and put them around the yard in baskets.
I think this is a fantastic idea! I actually just read about a wedding in one of the hundred of bridal magazines I've bought recently where they organized a softball game...though I suspect that would depend in large part on how formally you expect your guests to be dressed Another idea is Frisbee...and I love HumarockBride's suggestion of Bocce. You could also provide one of those long jump ropes for the kids (or is that too old school? Do kids still jump rope??)
