I have been trying to figure out the same thing. Our officiant is my cousin and he is a Pastor. What about a nice pen set?
@PrncssDva: I definitely wanted to give him a tie in our colors that he can wear on the big day while officiating. Would it be inappropriate to give him the same gift as the groomsmen? FI is getting them engraved beer mugs with customized 6 packs from Wegmans...Officiant is really into liquor, so I'm thinking that would be a rocking gift for him, but didn't know if it's inappropriate since the GM's are getting that gift.
Well, our officiant is the founder of The Pickled Brothers Sideshow - they do stuff like sword swallowing, bed of nails, fire eating, etc. Somehow, I'm guessing that my gift of new torches won't exactly fit your situation!
What if you just gave your friend a similar sort of present you would give if it were his birthday?
Our friend/officiant is a very close friend of ours. We got her a gift certificate so she and her kids could have a session done with a photographer. She hasn't had her kids professionally photographed in 3 or 4 years. I hope she loves it!
I think the tie is a good idea..what about a personalized flask to change his gift up from the Groomsmen?
We're in the same situation -- friend is officiating, and we want to get him a generous gift. We're probably getting our officiant some nice tools, or architecture books, since that's his thing. Other good ideas might be a gift certificate to a nice restaurant in his area or a really nice bottle of wine.
@jgkittymom3: I hadn't thought of that, but I don't want our officiant to clash with the wedding party. I guess I should go pick up a tie for him too!
We have a friend (who is also a pastor) doing ours. I was going to give him $250 (his normal fee he's waived) plus probably something sports related from his favorite team.
We're buying his tie from here http://www.thetiebar.com/index.asp. Great prices and awesome ties to boot!
Our officiant is one of my best friends. She has wanted a Pandora bracelet for a very long time but can't afford one. I bought her one with two charms. It was a little splurge, but I figured if we didn't have her, we'd have to pay an officiant $75 anyway, so I just spent double on her. :)
@Bailzoe: That's a really great idea for another person in my wedding party! Thanks!
Buy a standard male/female gift and a gift card from like Amazon, and thank them for the great service.

A friend of FH and I's is officiating our wedding, and I was wondering what the bees consider to be an appropriate gift? He's not a minister or anything like that, just a friend who was officiated for our wedding.
Married bees, if you had a friend officiate, what did you give him/her? Thanks!!
