Hello Bees!! My FH and I were talking about wedding gift money, how much we think we are going to get and what we will do with it. I want to save it or pay off my car while he wants to use it to go on another vacation a couple of months after the wedding. Needless to say, we have different opinions, which we will discuss futher.
So what are you doing with your wedding gift money? Or if your wedding has already passed, what have you done with it?? Maybe we can get some ideas from each other. ::Smile::

We have plans to save whatever we get…we look foward to house hunting next year..so any extra money will help! 🙂

We will do both. There are a few items from our registry that if we do not get, we will buy with the wedding money. We also really want an iPad so we’ll be using wedding money for that as well. Everything else is going towards the house fund.

I doubt we’ll get much, but the plan is to either put it all away or use it to pay down some debt.

We were going to save, but then my car died…. 🙁
So we will be trying to buy a car before, and having to use alot (if not all) wedding money to help pay for the car.

We saved about half of it, and put the other half on our line of credit.

We used it to pay down credit cards but it basically paid for our honeymoon.

We have a few things on our list to buy (a new couch or some recliners, Dyson, office chairs, etc…) but we’ll be saving the rest. We’ll be looking to buy a house in the next few years so this will jump-start that fund.

We’ve talked about it, and may do both. We’ll spend a bit on some household items if we don’t get our top items from our registries. Otherwise, we’ll be saving for a house fund – hopefully we can save some for our downpayment on our first home.

I want to use it to buy an aluminum boat for lake fishing. I think Fiance is on board with this. Only problem is we live in a townhouse and have nowhere to keep it.
So we will probably save it for a real vacation next year.
I guess it really just depends how much we get.

We will be using it to pay for our (delayed) honeymoon.

Our plan is to save. However, we’ve come into a few situations where it makes sense to spend it. I.e., I don’t have a job and we need to pay the bills. So instead of saving all of the money, we spent some of it so we didn’t have to go into my savings.
I feel you on the difference of opinion though. I had so many ideas of how we would spend money… and Darling Husband has completely opposite opinions. He thinks extra money means going on dates and spending stuff for fun. Which is fine, but we don’t have to spend it all. I was planning on saving some of the gift cards to Target for later on, but we ended up spending almost all of it on stuff he wanted (since he never really got guy-specific presents) and he needed new jeans. Ugh, I did NOT want to spend the wedding gift cards on jeans… but I also don’t want to control everything. Oh well! 🙂

We used the cash to finish our registry and put the checks into our house down payment savings account. Worked out great since it was almost 50%-50%. He got the reassurance that we were saving for our future. I got to get that awesome toaster oven and new duvet cover from BBB. 🙂

We will probably do 50/50.

I voted save. We’re not going out and buying anything with this new found cash that we wouldn’t buy anyways with our own money.
