    Hi Bees,

I orderd my dress in January and was told that it will not be here until the first week of June. My weddding is the end of August. When should I start setting up appointments for alterations? Am I suppose to wait til my dress arrives and take it around to get estimates? And is 2 months enough time?

Will your bridal salon do the alterations?  I am just having mine done there, on the assumption that their person will have more experience with wedding dresses than a regular tailor.

I would think that you could take photos of your dress, along with the measurements that were used to order it, to a tailor any time for a preliminary estimate.  Although maybe they would want to reserve the right to make changes after they actually see the dress.

My dress will ship 25 April for a wedding mid July, and they said two weeks max for alterations.  Of course my dress doesn't have lace, beading, or sequins, is a corset (lace-up) style, and was ordered to my exact measurements, so I think it will mostly require bustling and hemming, maybe addition of cups if I can't find a bra that works well with it.

I actually had my first fitting yesterday. I think the best thing to do is have the seamstress at the bridal salon do the alterations, if there is one. That way if anything happens to the dress, then they are responsible for it.

I'm not sure you'll get the same guarantee at other tailors. Plus, the seamstress at the bridal salon will have more experience with wedding gowns.

Two months should be plenty of time. I'm having another fitting in the middle of April to make sure everything is right, and the seamstress assured me that my dress will be ready for my May 9 bridal portraits.

My wedding is in August.  The bridal store said that we will start on alterations (12) weeks prior to the date of wedding.  I would check with the salon and see what they recommend.

David's Bridal told me that they would only need a month to do my alterations. You could probably go there and see if they could do anything. :]
