I don't think that either color will look better with his uniform. What you should focus on is what looks best on you. Some people look horrible in white (myself included) so I wouldn't have worn it even if I thought my husband's outfit would look better with that than ivory.
@MissAsB: Thank you for your opinion. I look great in several colors. I'm lucky to have that kind of skin, but it makes my decision so much harder. What color would you say would look best for my dress that will also go well with the Marine dress blues?
I guess if both white and ivory look equally good on you, I'd go with white for a crisper look. I think ivory looks just fine; it's about your coloring. But if coloring isn't a concern, I suppose I'd do white.
@AmeliaBedelia: Thanks for the opinion. Love your user name. I loved those books as a kid. :)
@MarissaMillett: Haha, thanks. :) I have them all.
But yeah, I think white. I had a friend marry a military officer; she wore bright white, with a navy sash.
@AmeliaBedelia: I was thinking about a ribbon at my waistline, but it would be either red or black.
A comment for everyone: The gown color doesn't HAVE to be white or ivory. I know there are a billion colors and shades and tints out there. Like I said before, I'm very open-minded. I wanna know what all of you think. Thanks again!
November, which means "winter white" is the color of the season. So, I would go with ivory.
My sister married a Marine and she went with white. It looked very nice with his uniform! But, I also agree with the PP's, that you need to find a shade and dress that you love just as much! :)
My sis also chose black and red for her colors and it all looked really good together, so compliments to your color choices too!
Hi there! I'm marrying an Air Force officer and we will have several branches of the military present and in uniform during the wedding. The dress I tried on was ivory and I liked it but my FI's uniform will have white in it. As someone already stated, it's ultimately up to you but for me, I thought an Ivory dress up against his uniform with a white bowtie and white vest would look funny. I'm going with white. I think white will look nice up against the red and black as well.
Hope that helps!
I married a Naval officer who was wearing his dress whites (think of the movie "Officer and a Gentleman") and I wore an ivory dress. To be honest, 'whites' doesn't always mean WHITE.
For about 90% of our day and pictures, you can't tell the difference between his whites and my ivory dress.
I think white would look really sharp with his uniform. My FI is in the Air Force though, and their dress blues are a strange very-dark-blue-but-not-quite-navy. I got a champagne colored dress because it looked good on me and didn't clash with him. My girls are wearing a silvery-blue, and all together, it looks great! Just go with what you want!
Both colors would look great with his blues. It just depends on if you want to look more patriotic or a casual less patriotic look. It depends on your style and what color looks best with your skin tone. GL.
I wore "diamond white" and used an old pair of his dress blue plants as the fabric that was wrapped around my flowers. I did not want to worry about matching any colors since the uniform is so specific. I also wore navy polish on my toes.
Our wedding colors were pewter and navy and my flowers were various shades of blue with some yellow accents. I'm attaching a picture. Trying to match was difficult so I did shades. I also loved that a uniform piece was on my flowers!
My fiance is wearing his dress blues as well. If you can wear either color my vote is for the white dress because the hat and belt are white. I think you could pull off red or black. Even though it's dress blues the top looks almost black. I attached a picture from the military ball we went to so you could see black against the uniform. Hope it helps!

My fiance leaves for boot camp in August of this year, and he asked me to be his wife in November of 2010. We will be getting married in November of 2012. I know it's a while away, but I do not like to wait until the last minute to get things done. I've started looking at wedding gowns over the past couple weeks, and I'm torn between ivory and white. He will be wearing his dress blues in the wedding, and I'm thinking our wedding colors are going to be red and black. Please give me your opinions. I am very open-minded, and we still have over two years until our wedding, so we have plenty of time. Thank you!
