Im going to call her tommorrow and see if she will be able to get a dress in time. how do i say this without being a complete bee#$^%? I am so unconfrontational but if i dont ask then she will be printed on the programs and that seems silly to print someone on the program who has YET to get a dress.

🙁 That’s a tough one!
I’d say it’s best to be really straight forward with her – but still make it a question, not an accusation.
Just let her know the programs are being printed, and you’ve noticed that she’s been having trouble getting the dress (is it financial?) and want to know if she needs an ‘out’ before they get printed.

I think being sincere and direct. And offer to help.

Oh boy. Both posters had great advice before me…I can just offer empathy to you!

Are all of the dresses supposed to be the same or are they just supposed to be a certain color? Is it possible for you or someone to lend her a dress that would work?

I just wouldn’t say anything. if she shows up she shows up. you have lots of other things to worry about.

Are you saying she can’t be in your wedding without a dress? I understand your frustration (especially if all of the BMs are wearing identical dresses), but seriously consider if you want to kick what in all probability is a good friend out of your wedding b/c of a dress. Playing the devil’s advocate-maybe she’s short on time or money?? Either way, I would frankly discuss what she plans to do on the day of your wedding, b/c while I don’t think you should boot her, she is being irresponsible by not buying the dress or by not telling you she’s too busy/broke to do so. Hopefully it’s not too late! Here’s a good one (true story-my sister, a police dispatcher, took the call):
“I just got a call (I’m at work-7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning), and it was a girl stating she had a situation a needed some advice. She is the maid of honor in a wedding today and she forgot to pick up her dress at the cleaners yesterday and today they are closed! Talk about a nightmare. Well, lucky for her I got a hold of the owner and he is going to go to the store and meet her there to give her the dress. (Nothing like waiting until the last minute!). The owner was pretty funny, he kept saying she was supposed to pick it up yesterday-‘Oh some customer, I just don’t know!'”

A good friend who also is a bridesmaid doesn’t forget to order the dress! Or, if she does, she lets you know without you having to ask.
