If you have hives, you should have an emergency appointment TOMORROW, not on Thursday.  Allergic reactions are serious business.

Keep taking small doses of benadryl (unless you have to drive somewhere).  Eat something at the same time if it helps your stomach.  That really does help reduce the hives.

Good luck hun!

I agree with the above poster that you should keep taking benadryl.  My son had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic and developed giant hives which came and went for about three days.  We went to the ER and were told that giant hives are not dangerous (just annoying) and would go away on their own after a few days but were relieved by benadryl.  They seemed to go away during the day and would pop out at night when he got warm under the blankets.  You could try putting cold compresses on the hives as well.

I would go see a Dr ASAP.  I recently broke out in some bad hives and was given 2 injections of steroids and antihistamines.  The itching went away within half an hour and the swelling decreased later that day!

I would just go to any doctor I could get into!

Well the good news is that steroids do not lower the effectiveness of birth control.  There is a moderate interaction between steroids (ex. prednisone) and birth control.  This may be way too much detail though (finishing my doctor of pharmacy degree so all this stuff makes sense to me now I guess).  You can always check with your physician or pharmacist if you have concerns though (and that’s always a good idea when you get info from online!)  From drugs.com

Estrogens may enhance the systemic effects of both endogenous and exogenous corticosteroids. The proposed mechanism is an increase in serum cortisol-binding globulin (transcortin) induced by estrogens, resulting in a decreased rate of corticosteroid metabolic clearance. The interaction has been reported with estrogens or estrogen-containing oralcontraceptives (OCs) and hydrocortisone, prednisone, and prednisolone.

In short, you may end up with slightly higher levels of steroid levels in your body for a period of time as it takes longer for the steroid to be metabolized and leave the body.  This does not effect the efficacy of the birth control pill though.

I was just on a steriod (both a 1 time injection and an oral taper dose for about a week) due to poison ivy all over my face and the wedding is this week!  My poison ivy started to clear up within 24 hours after the shot.  Good luck!

Edit: if you are having a serious allergic reaction (or are concerned you might be), please consider going to an urgent care center (or ER).  If you need a steroid shot, they will be able to do that – no dermatologist required.

If you have ANY itching or swelling, get thee to an urgent care ASAP! A lot of pharmacies have “Minute Clinics” or the like, just google it. As people have said, please don’t mess around with an allergic reaction!

Good luck girl!

Oh, I am sorry 🙁  I am glad that you got to get in to see an MD though.  Hopefully your make-up person can do a fabulous job.  *Just remember you are getting married to your honey* and that’s the best!  No matter what else!!  (((Hugs)))
