My brother was married in Punta Cana (sorry i think i may have spelled that wrong) in the Dominican in September. They had the reception the following May.  On the invites they stated they were “Recently Married”. It was bbq reception. They had a slide show of pics from there wedding.  It was a great time.

@PennyLainne: Yup she wore her dress, and they did the first dance, bouquet/garter toss, cake cutting…everything you would expect at a regular reception. It was a held in a park in town, they had people bring there own alchohol…which really helped in the cost. They provided non-alchoholic beverages, and had bbq sandwhiches, cold salads. They had outdoor activities like “horseshoes”, and soccer and stuff and because it was at a park they had a playground for the kids.

Im not sure what resort they stayed at, but it was an all inclusive one. From the pictures, it was a beautiful place.

Is April going to be warm enough?  I think a lot of people have at home ceeremonies/renewals way down the line, so I wouldn’t think it strange.

@PennyLainne: Exactly!  Do whatever you want to do.  Six months to make it like a half-anniversary lol?!?

I live in Alberta too and there is no way you will be having an outdoor bbq in April. So I think you either have your reception closer or wait 6-7 months if you really want your bbq. I think lots of people do their reception later. Its totally up to you and whats important to you. I’m having a DW in Punta Cana too. I am having my reception immediately after but thats because that was important to me. Do whatever makes you happy.
