heheheeh – i dont know what inspired me but i got married barefoot , in a swimsuit and sarong 🙂
i walked into only one bridal store and kinda burst out laughing because it seriously was not me – i love looking at pretty things but for me, its just not my lifestyle, ive never dreamt of my wedding day and i dont like the stress
if i had to wear a dress for my wedding – i would love a tea length dress (like above) over a full on bridal gown anyday…… beautiful dress

I love all the 40s movie star styles. I’m going for a combination of that classic elegance meets Sex and the City high fashion.

I love wedding movies too my favorite is the Wedding Singer, it’s funny and romantic I don’t think I will be using it as my wedding inspiration tho.

Actually, I just noticed that the ‘Wedding Singer’ kinda has the same colors I’m using for my wedding, “Fuchsia and turquoise”. Maybe I will make it my inspiration, but I’m not copying the 80’s hair styles just the fun pretty bright colors. [attachment=639456,83325]

Really cool dress! Where did you get it?
Our wedding has elements from the Lord of the Rings in it. So, kindda different to Moulin Rouge (though that’s my no. 1 love movie!).

I’m planning to have a couple of Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica references. I know its geeky but I want it included because its a fun way to work in tributes to stuff that inspires you.
Oh, you may want to check out this website for dress inspiration from Moulin Rouge
The costumes in Moulin Rouge are very turn of the century, fin-de-siecle style… particularly with all the little oriental touches. Your dress reminds me of the Dior New Look which actually came much later.
However, I guess if you love the colors then go for it. People might exclaim its a little bit too “gothic” or “dark” but if this makes you happy, who cares right?
Don’t forget to serve absinthe 🙂 You really can’t have Moulin Rouge as an inspiration without a tribute to the Green Fairy…

- Wedding: December 2010 - Al Cielo / La Laguna
Count me into the movie inspired wedding. Ours is Indiana Jones! We love the explorer/adventurer type look and the rustic jungle look.

growing up i always wanted audrey hepburn’s dress from my fair lady when she goes to the ball:
but it just didn’t end up being my dress, even though i still love it!

Since I was working in Photoshop anyway, I thought I’d throw up a few inspiration photos for you as well as any future brides with similar themes… warning – heavy images!
First – the dress. I tried to use enough shots from the movie as well as “real brides” with similar enough dress styles. You can actually get a great looking replica red satin dress from http://www.deconstructressdesigns.com/satine.htm which is pretty close to the real thing and very beautiful. (I chose the red gown because you mentioned red and black being your wedding colors)
Next – the decor at the venue… again, rather than “sets” there are lots of inspiration pics from real events, places and weddings. The picture in the last row with the very large mirror could be a great “frame” option for a photobooth.
And all the little details – favors, invites, drinks, cake and jewelry (You can get cheaper versions of Satine’s necklace all over the internet if you google it)
Absinthe isn’t legal in the US I believe? Except for this one brand called Lucid, and they have tons of awesome drink recipes at http://www.drinklucid.com/ as well as accessories such as absinthe fountains and “spoons” to drink absinthe the traditional way.
If you want to make fake vodka absinthe here’s a video tut – http://www.champagnewinemartini.com/plastic-martini-glasses/how-to-make-fake-absinthe
You can also decorate with Absinthe and Moulin Rouge posters – check out some vintage ones here at the Absinthe Museum – http://www.oxygenee.com/absinthe/posters7.html

oooh gosh I love this! I think our first dance will be to the Moulin Rouge version of Your Song. But that’s all of this theme I have incorporated into our day.
