Yep. I get married on Friday. I’ve been all fine and dandy since probably last December with no sickness and what not. Anyways yesterday was pretty chilly and I had to spend a little time outside. Almost immediately following I started to feel like crap and now I’ve got myself a wonderful cold with a sore throat, runny nose, and headache.
Every event in my life that has been supposed to be about me is always ruined by something so this comes as no suprise.
Anyways! I wanted to vent and ask you- what are your best cold remedies? I feel like I’ve got enough time to kick this in the next few days if I’m careful. Thanks bees!

Oil of Oregano!! It tastes DISGUSTING but it works. Both DH and I were feeling crappy a few days up to our reception. We kept guzzling it in juices etc. and it made a huge difference 🙂 Good luck!

Zinc!!!! Forget vitamin c. Seriously just take as much zinc as you can everyday (look up the highest dose you can take safely). Its great for your immune system and usually ends my colds days before they would normally finish. I took it every single day for years and I didn’t get sick AT ALL for 3 years – this was while I was in college and at times when I shared a bed with my sick FI.

Rest. I am sure you have a lot to do leading up to the big day but I think resting along with other suggestions can always help more than we realize. I always drink tons of fluids, do a saline nasal rinse once or twice a day (or neti pot etc), and sleep as much as possible. If I don’t take time to rest/sleep enough it seems to take twice as long for me to get over my cold.
I had a very similar cold it sounds like about a month ago and I was better in about a week. This was with working long days all week, so I think with some rest and everything else you have a good chance at feeling better by the big day.

can you get TCP where you live (antiseptic solution, def available in UK but harder to get in US and other places i think). if so, dilute 1 part to 5 parts water and gargle with it many times a day. it kills the nasties in the back of your throat. alternate with gargling salt water.
do a nasal saline rinse (i hate doing this, but its always really helped) – warm cooled down boiled or distilled water with baking soda and salt in a neti pot (or something ismilar) and flush that nose out!
get as much rest as you can while drinking lots of water and hot drinks. i tried a ginger/cinnamon/lemon/honey/apple cider vinegar tea the othe rday (1/2 tsp dry spices, 1 lemon, 3 tbsp honey or to taste, 1tsp vinegar with hot water) and thta with the TCP stopped my cold taking hold
if you have nightnurse in your cuontry, take it before you sleep so it can work while youre resting and day nurse when you wake up. even if you arent normally a big fan of medication i think now would be worth it 🙂

Theraflu, NyQuil, lots of rest, positive attitude. Nothing is ruined, you still have the whole week to get over this cold and in my experience the worse symptoms let up within a couple days.

I go on an all-liquid diet of OJ for two or three days, and wash my hands every hour on the hour!

Take a clove of garlic like a pill. Sounds crazy but it will help.

@MissDarthVader: Oh poor thing! I got sick a few days before my wedding too, and I was so bummed.
Drink TONS of water, try to sleep a lot, gargle with warm salt water a few days a day, and suck on 5 or 6 zinc lozenges a day… that should help. And when the day comes, you’ll be so hopped up on adrenaline and joy that you won’t notice it too much.

Sleep and fluids. Whatever you’ll drink the most of (for me it’s Gatorade, aka liquid candy) and try to sleep whenever you can.

It’s only Monday! You probably won’t feel perfect by Friday, but you surely won’t be at your worst! At least today isn’t Thursday! Drink lots of water, lots of vitamin c fruits, and lots of rest!

Go to your doctor, see if they will give you a cortisone shot. My doctor does this for me whenever I have a bad sinus infection, it helps speed up healing!

@MissDarthVader: Sleep, gargle with salt and water, drink honey tea, and sleep. I don’t believe in drugging myself or taking vitamins I’ve never used before in advance of an event.

@MissDarthVader: I SWEAR by Zicam. Seriously, it’s the best. Take the tablets every 2 hours on the dot with lots of water and you’ll be better in no time (also, lots and lots of rest).
