Here’s the thing:
The DJ we’re going with not only runs a typical DJ business, but also has some regular karaoke gigs. So.. he has all the equpitment for it, and he’s offering to do both for the same charge, if you were a guest, what would you think?

I LOVE KARAOKE. Love everthing about it. However, I wouldn’t want it at my wedding.

I hate kareoke (both participating in and listening to). So it would be a no for me.

Would need to be the right crowd. I wouldn’t do it for my wedding because my guests would think I was nuts and it doesn’t fit the feel I want.

I LOVE KAREOKE! The key is to get a few people to start things off (otherwise people are too uncomfortable to get up and sing). I know tons of my friends would be up at your wedding. If it’s the same price, why not at least get it? You can always stop it if you are finding it annoying (just have the DJ tell people you only paid for a certain amount of time and it’s over now).

If it’s a 2-for-1 deal, what the heck? If the guests want to do it, they’ll have the option. If not, you’re not out any money.
Of course, I’m the one who see this and thinks “blackmail material!” for later. lol. Seriously, though, it could lead to some fun joking amongst the guests.
I’d suggest opening it up to karaoke later in the evening, though, when things are starting to die down.

Eh, not for a wedding. I absolutely HATE karaoke and would probably leave a wedding if they had it (sorry if that’s tough love!). I used to waitress in a restaurant where we had weekly karaoke and I always, always, always told them I was unavailable that night because of my hatred for it.

Wow, I never realized there was so much karaoke hate! I’ve got quite a few friends who love it, and a fairly open-minded family, so we’ll probably end up opening it up around 10-10:30 (we have the venue till 2 AM)

Depends on the mood and feel of the reception but you have to keep in mind that not everyone likes karaoke so not everyone will enjoy it.

I love karaoke and think this would be awesome!

I LOVE karaoke while out with friends and such… and I have no problem karaoke’ing on my wedding night- but its going to be at the after-party at a bar with my friends, not during the actual reception at my venue.

I think it would be tons of fun with the right group! My friends and I used to go to karaoke night at our campus bar all the time, and it was always hilarious and highly entertaining.
IMO, “classy” is overrated. Everyone goofing around and laughing? Priceless!

@jayce: Knowing my crowd, I think we’ll reserve ‘classy’ for the early crowd, I figure by the time we’d be breaking out the karaoke, ‘classy’ will probably have flown out the window ( quite possibly along with the best man’s pants )

I say do it. 🙂 We’re having Karaoke. It’s my Fiancé’s one and only request, so I’m honoring it. Plus, our friends and family are totally on board. We won’t start until a little later in the evening (ie after everyone’s had a few drinks) and we’ll intersperse with dance music, that way it’s not 30 min or an hour of complete karaoke. It should be a great time.
