Santa Cruz is the furthest South or North you’ll go?  I’m not really clear where you are from, so it’s hard to know what direction to point you in.  I know Tahoe has outdoor churches in the summer time.

Does it have to be a church?  And does it have to be a Catholic church?  If your grandfather is a deacon does that qualify as a true Catholic wedding?  My understanding is that it had to be in the Church with the sacrament delivered by the priest… but I’ve gotten a little rusty since fiance isn’t Catholic.

I don’t know of any Catholic churches that are outside.  My priest (I’m getting married at St. Theresa’s in South Lake) stressed the importance of being married on an altar of a church because marriage is a sacrament.  My understanding is that to be married outside we would’ve had to get special permission from the diocese (we are in the San Francisco diocese).

I do know of a church that is really cute and rustic and outdoorsy-themed.  It’sat Fallen Leaf Lake, which is right next to South Lake Tahoe. It’s called St. Francis of the Mountains.  It’s only open in the summer, and I don’t know the contact information; last time I was there they had some pamphlets, but we didn’t grab one.

Here’s some pictures:

I googled a couple more pics since two of those didn’t turn out.  Hopefully, these will work…

You’ve set a heroic task for yourself.  I’d check with St. Francis of Assisi parish in North Lake Tahoe.

and with the Corpus Christie parish for the Our Lady of the Snows Chapel at Squaw Valley.

I think these are as close to out of doors as you are likely to get.  I checked Grass Valley, Sacramento, Reno, South Lake Tahoe and North Lake Tahoe… and I should be working right now 😉

Apparently great minds also get on the WB boards when we should be working.  Guilty!

LOL- My work right now involves running a computer program that takes some time to process, so I don’t feel too bad about surfing the Bee at work.  It usually means I’m doing a statistical analysis…  (Alright, I admit it… sometimes I’m goofing off!)
