I had my first make up trial and initially I was really pleased with the results. But after an hour or so I started to find issues with it. I didn’t like the blending on my eyeshadow and I felt like the pores in my cheeks looked huge (which is one of the things I like the least about my skin). I took the foundation off and kept the eyeshadow on and did my face makeup how I normally do it. I compared pictures of the two and feel like I look a little better in the professional make up in photos, but in person I look better in my own make up. Then again this might be because I’m not used to wearing liquid foundation; I normally wear powder. Have many bees out there gone the DIY route with their make up? How did you find it? Should I risk it or will I look washed out in my photos? Would love to hear other people’s experiences 🙂

You won’t look washed out as long as you get foundation that doesn’t have any SPF/sunscreen in it at all.
Honestly, if you feel more comfortable doing your own makeup, then do it! I will be, because I want to feel like myself, and whenever anyone else does my makeup I don’t feel like me.
There’s no reason why you have to wear liquid foundation either. Go with whatever you like best and feel most comfortable with! You could always go buy yourself a liquid foundation and play with it for a few weeks to get used to using it if you decide you want to DIY and use it.
Did you use a primer on your face? I find this helps me with big pores. The one I have is a clear, almost jelly consistancy, and it works wonders for smoothing everything out.
If I were you I’d have a play one weekend soon, even try to copy what the makeup artist did but tweak it to exactly how you like it. The go outside and take some photos, and compare them to the photos of you with the pro makeup. See which one you like better!

christoffels: thank you! I do use primer myself, but the MUA didn’t, so maybe that’s why. I might have to do some powder foundation research, thanks for replying!
