I've been quoted up to $175 EACH for hair and makeup. Its no cheap business.
$80 including travel for an updo seems pretty reasonable - by "bridal" standards... (not my own).
$55 feels high if you're travelling there and she's not doing foundation or blush, or concealor. Plus, that's weird because 2 of those things create the canvas for her art. You can go to Mac for that price, and get the whole shebang.
Hope that helps!
i am paying way more than that for hair and makeup. and I'm driving all the way to LA from OC....I would say yuor makeup and hair is pretty reasonable if not cheap compared to most LA places I've researched....
In LA everything is overpriced...boo!
Well, that calms my nerves a bit then! Thanks for the feedback. The makeup girl is also traveling to the hotel bright and early, so that $55 includes her travel fee.
The updo does sound very reasonable. However you may want to ask the hair person how much time she expects to spend on each updo. My experience has been that an updo should take at least 1/2 hr per girl if not more since most of the time there is curling and lots of pinning to do. If she quotes you 15 mins, then I would be a bit worried that she is only going to try to rush everything and only do an ok job and not be diligent in getting every hair perfect.
Same thing for the makeup artist. 15 mins is a very short amount of time to get the eyes just right and put on eyelashes properly. I'm sure a lot of girls will say that they do their eye makeup in 15 mins with no problems. However, I've had my makeup done for various weddings by different makup artists and most of them do take their time and blend colors to make it perfectly the way I want so that takes time. They should also allow time for some changes in case you want to change something.
You're right. Well, she said she has an asst who curls all the hair before, then she gets to work on the updos or whatever. I think by the time the hair is curled, she works on it for 15 mins to put it up. Not too sure. It's just still crazy to me that she will make almost $900 doing this. I'm not sure how long the make up girl will take, I will make sure it's perfected though. She's pretty amazing.
Thanks for the input.

Hi all,
I am starting to hire makeup and hair girls to do up my wedding party. I'm really shocked by how expensive this is and how these girls can charge so much, when they are working about 10-15 mins on each girl! I'm getting married in LA, so that could be the reason why. My hair girl is 22 years old, but really good and is charging $80/girl for an updo...she is also driving to the hotel at 5am to get started, IS THIS NORMAL PRICING?? Oh and I also know her from my hometown...not quite the hommie discount I was relying on. My makeup girl works in a salon in Bev Hills and is charging $55 for eyes, eyelashes and lips. IS THIS NORMAL??
Do I need to do more research?
Thanks!!
