I'm starting my search for a good color to wear on my nails for my wedding.

What did you wear if you didn't do a french manicure?

Any photos of the color of of your nails would be helpful too!

    Thanks!

I always thought I wanted a french manicure but now I really just don't.  I'm thinking of going for some light to medium shade of pink (I'm not sure what shade at all yet though).

I sooo so wanted a reddish orange because I did NOT want french...but in all my trials, it looked terrible on my hands, so I went with Princesses Rule from OPI. I don't seem to have any pics of my hands (yet) but here's a pretty good example of how it looks on: http://www.manicuremommas.com/2009/05/notd-opi-princesses-rule.html

I'm doing french manicure for my wedding day, but for my engagement party I had really pale pink nails...it looked very bridal!

@mandb122: That was my line of thinking as well... looking for something in the neutral or pink family.

@allisonc: that is a really pretty shade!

This is the color I'm wearing for my engagement pictures.  I'm thinking I'll do something along the same lines for the wedding.

I think I'm going to do a pale/almost flesh tone pink. I"m not a big fan of the french manicure.

A frech is classic in white... but it is possible to use the color of your wedding party as the frenchtip of your nails. By doing this you will add a splash of color on to you and it will not take away from your beauty but instead add to the special day.

I wore red for my engagement photos (like classic retro red) with a green dress, but will likely just have a nice clear polish on for the wedding day. (Or maybe I'll do ivory polish!)

I am going against the norm and doing either My Private Jet by Opi or William Tell Me About It by Opi

@CorgiTales: That is what I am thinking as well. I'm afraid if I don't have some color names in mind that I'll spend an hour trying to choose that day, though!

@rissaland: I can see that being really pretty! My girls are wearing black though, so that might be a little too goth for my wedding day.

@Statutory Grape: ivory could look very classic!

I'm getting my nails done today for our engagement pics and I am proabably going to go with a light pink.  I am getting a shellac manicure so the color choices aren't as abundant I will have to see what they have.

If I like it my plan is to do the same for the wedding... no french for me.

@messybride: I wear white nails frequently, but I've never tried an ivory polish. I'm not a fan of sheer shades...would a super-pigmented polish look okay?

i LOVE nail polish and am pretty obsessed with OPI. I will most likely wear some shade of light pink. You've been given some great ideas!

@vanillabean: I LOVE that color! I don't think it will work for my wedding day but it I really want to paint mine that color right now haha

@FutureMrsChaney: I think the William Tell Me About It is very pretty!

@LRin2011: What is a shallac manicure? Is that the same as a gel manicure?

@Statutory Grape: I think an ivory would just depend on your skin color. It could either blend nicely or pop a bit depending on the shade of your hands. Either way, I think it would look nice.

I got my nails done and did one coat of Intimate by Essie. It has a bit of shimmer, but with one coat, it's very subtle and more just looks shiny.

Even though I love dark drama on the nails (Essie Macks and OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark are faves), I wanted my ring to be the star on my wedding day so I went with a lighter barely-there color.

And by the way, I've also had a manicure in which she buffed my nails like crazy--she spent some serious time doing that and they came out looking WONDERFUL--so healthy and clean. Since it's unlikely you'll find someone else to buff them for long enough, you can purchase one of those 4-sided buff thingys and do them youself.

@messybride: I've never gotten one... but according to the salon I got a pedicure at last week it is different.  I have also never gotten a gel manicure, so I'm probably not the best person to ask. But I have heard a lot about them and they are supposed to last for 2-3 weeks. I do know that they cure them with a UV light...

Question - would it look funny to put color on the fingers, but a nude/french on the toes? I have purple open toe shoes and think a purple toe would be too much, so thinking about doing a nude toe and then purple or dark pink on my fingers, so it will pop against my white dress. Thoughts?

@messybride: True. I'm extremely pale, but peachy instead of yellow or pink undertones. I'm going to start my nail polish research, stat! :)

@JennyW1: the shimmer in that color is really pretty! I hadn't thought of just doing one coat of a color to tone it down a bit.

@LRin2011: I've read about gel manicures on here but have never had one either. I'm going to call around and see about trying one this weekend so I can see if I like it for the big day.

@808mjm202: I don't think that would look bad. I agree with the lighter color on the toes to let your shoes stand out more.  I'd paint your nails a color you are considering the next time you try your dress on. That way, you can see if you like the look of the darker nail against white dress!

@messybride: Thanks for the tip - yeah, I think I should try to paint one foot/hand with pink/purple and the other the nude color and try on my dress and shoes to see which matches best. Hahaha, I just need to remember to change it before I go to work the next day!

@LRin2011:I was actually part of the group they were testing Shellac on, and that stuff is AMAZING!!!  Your manicure will last upwards of 2 weeks, and I've been planning to have a Shellac manicure on my nails since I started the program.  It won't chip (unless you break a nail) and will look fresh until it is taken off.  It also strengthens your nails, at least while you're wearing it, so they're less likely to chip overall.  It really is just the most incredible stuff, and worth every penny.  As someone who had the pleasure of regular Shellac manicures for almost a year, I cannot recommend it enough!

@MissAdventure: Sweet I'm excited! My sister gave me a giftcard for Christmas last year and I am just getting around to using it.
