I called today to reserve a block of hotel rooms for guests at the only decent hotel in town (yes, we’re getting married in rural Illinois; no, there aren’t many options).
The big problem? They require a 2-night stay for all weddings. This is completely unnecessary for most of our guests. I could shuttle them 30 minutes away to a hotel in a neighboring town, but I’m afraid people would see it as a hassle and try to drive home after a night of drinking.
The only way to get around the required stay at this particular hotel is to omit the word WEDDING – no other functions require a 2-night stay. To do this, I see it necessary to include a warning to guests in with the invitations: Do not say Lastname’s Wedding when reserving a room!
Is this ultra-tacky? Has anybody found a way to get around this crazy rule with other hotels?
