Some back story: Originally my FI and I were talking about a small destination wedding on Aug 10 2012, unfortunately his family wouldn't have been able to make it so we've decided to go for a little larger of a wedding (80-100 people instead of 15-200. Because this wedding will be a little larger, we're going to push it back a year to save up the funds. But with pushing it back a year, I didn't really like the date (I have a weird thing with dates. I love the repeating ones, the ones that add up together, that sort of thing. So, 08.10.12 was great in my mind.) even though it would have actually fallen on a Saturday that year. 08.10.13 just didn't have the same impact to me.

So, I looked at a calendar for 2013 for some days that were "calling to me" so to speak. The one that I finally settled on was 10.12.13. The only problem I have found with said date is that it is Columbus Day Weekend of that year. Around here, Columbus Day isn't a really big holiday so I'm not sure if there would be mark-ups for a holiday weekend or not.

What I'm wondering is if you fellow bees who have had weddings on holiday weekends (especially this particular one) had trouble with mark-ups for your vendors? I know we're out over two years in advance so I'm hoping (*crossing fingers here*) that booking vendors won't be a problem so much as affording them over a holiday weekend. Any advice would be much appreciated! Smile

I'm getting married on President's Day Weekend. The official holiday is the Monday after my wedding. I got a huge discount for getting married on a Sunday in an off season month. I think most venues only trump up charges for the major holidays like Christmas, New Year's, July 4th, etc. The holidays that more people are likely to celebrate/get off from work. Not everyone necessarily gets President's Day or Columbus Day off... or even celebrates it.

My brother got married on Victoria Day weekend (Canada) and while I don't know anything about any extra charges, the guests complained a lot about 'wasting' a holiday weekend and a lot of them couldn't make it because they 'always went to the cottage' or 'always did this or that.' Just be aware that you might have issues with that.
