I don’t have suggestions specific to your area, but here’s how I found wedding venue options. First I looked on review websites, like WeddingWire, where they have reviews for venues and other wedding vendors. I also looked up lists of museums and historic buildings. Many of those places will host weddings, and it would fit your indoor requirements (I would also assume/hope they wouldn’t discriminate against a same sex couple). I would also see if you can find local wedding magazines for lists of venues. For example, for me I found free magazines for “Southern New England Brides” which has tons of ads in it. You might also want to consider restaurants and bed and breakfasts if your wedding is small enough. Good luck finding a place!

I’ve heard good things about the Houston Heights Fire Station (historic building, no longer a fire station).  Its supposed to be very reasonably priced, not sure how much it would cost, but that is an idea.

Good luck!

I’m getting married at Sycamore Heights, a B&B just off 18th and Heights Blvd. I don’t know how mobile your father is, but there are a few steps up to the house. If that’s not a problem, the gentlemen who own and run it are gay-friendly (one of my criteria also!) as well as being super sweet and accommodating. They have round tables and chairs for about 50, and those are included in the rental (which was just under $1000 when I booked it). Their website is www.sycamoreheights.com if you want to check it out. I also looked at some other B&Bs in Houston – Sara’s and the Lovett something-or-other, I believe, but this was by far my favorite. Good luck!

We had our reception at the Newport Country Club in Crosby TX, which is 30 minutes NE of downtown Houston.  If they have availability, they can definitely do your ceremony and reception for under $2500.  It is a really nice space, and their event coordinator Lisa is great about understanding a budget.  You have to use their chef for food, but they can do anything you want based on your budget.  I know 30 minutes sounds like it is out of the way, but if you are on the east side of Houston at all it is worth looking at.  PM me if you want more info.

Have you found a photographer yet? I am totally in love with mine. It is C. Baron Photography. I paid $1000 for 6hrs wedding day, 2 photographers, engagement session, 100 photo cards, 18×20 print, and printable cd. The price may have went up to $1,200, but I am sure you guys can work something out. Lisa is wonderful. Check their fb. Lisa is always updating it with new pictures. If you are interested, let her know Lanie sent you!
