anaxilea:  Is there a family reunion coming up at all on your side? Maybe your mom can host a gathering weekend, and Oh look you two got married by the way!

I was also in the position of trying to get our immediate families together after we married (they still have never met), but a big party just did not warrant a flight and days off from work, etc.  So that never happened.  It was really just a big hassle for anyone out of town honestly and no one really like the idea.

You know what we did, with all the $$$ we saved on our destination elopement is we flew to all the “would be” wedding guests.  That’s right, we flew to CA, WA, OR, MA, IN, IL over a year’s time and just saw all those friends and family individually and took them out do dinner.  If they drank alcohol, we bought a bottle of champange during our stay.  Some stays with friend the wedding was hardly mentioned, just dependend on the people.  That was much nicer and more personal than a big party.

anaxilea:  Or you could just host a celebration party – you know to celebrate your recent marriage.  No staging no redoing of vows.  Would your out of town relatives have to get a hotel or could they do it in one day?

anaxilea:  At the reunion, maybe you could bring champagne and a wedding cake to share with everyone?  It would be just enough to bring out the celebration but not take over like it was your own reception. Just an idea!
