I would engrave a short message of thanks and the date of your wedding. Or how about song titles that make you think of them or are relevant to their role in the wedding, (like "I'll Stand By You"). I don't think they necessarily want your names on their shuffle but something reminding them that it was a wedding related gift is not inappropriate.
I would do something special to each person that means something. Each of my friends and I have little private jokes that would be perfect for this type of thing!
I would NOT do your name/wedding date IMO.
I think it would be fun to have their nicknames on there and make it possessive like engrave "Crazy Bone's IPod" We got our GM engraved glasses and vs. just putting their name on it, we had "Tom's Beer" they liked it more with the engraving being possessive.
Also, I would steer away from putting your wedding date on there. IMO having an engraving of your wedding date on a gift for friends is a bit pretentious, but this is just MHO :)
I agree with the poster that said something tht would mean something to each individual person.. For instance for my FH I'd write "You're my Favorite" for my best friend I'd write "Be my very best friend" for his best friend itd be CBK Bros or something like that...
Thanks for all the suggestions! FI and I have differing opinions, so I wanted to see what y'all thought.

I think we've finally decided on what to get our wedding party (bridesmaids, groomsmen, and ushers)! We're getting them iPod shuffles and loading each person's iPod with their own play list (songs that make us think of them, songs that they will like, and songs from our wedding).
What should we engrave on our wedding party's iPod shuffles?
Keep in mind we're limited to 2 lines, 14 characters each line.
