Neither is mandatory no matter what type of wedding you have. If you don’t have a wedding party your mom may want to throw you a shower but all of that is really up to you/fi and your tastes & wants.

I don’t think it’s necessary to have a bridal party if you’re just having a reception, except you may want to appoint a maid of honour/best man for speeches if you like.  But, have a full bridal party if you want one!  They just won’t have the full role that they would have if they were there for the ceremony as well.

You can still have a bridal shower for sure.  But you should not throw it for yourself (it looks like a gift grab.)  If you want a bridal shower and you’re not sure if anyone will throw one for you, maybe plant the idea with your mother, Future Mother-In-Law, sister, or best friend to throw it for you.

Unless you are including a reaffirmation of your vows and want to have friends stand up with you, there isn’t really anything for a wedding party to do.
