Neither my FI or I like cake…like, at all…. so we’re planning on having his grandmother make us a wedding pie from the berries we grow in our backyard. These pies are ALWAYS delcious, and it would still give us something to cut (although we have no plans on feeding each other, sorry traditionalists) Plus, it saves us a couple hundred dollars! My mother and FMIL and his grandma all think this is a great idea, but a couple of people have mentioned that they would miss the cake. We planned on having some different types of pie for those who don’t like black raspberries (chocolate and lemon merange and apple, etc) Would you be terribly sad to show up at a wedding with no fancy cake?

I totally wanted a pie bar at my wedding so I voted NO I would not miss cake. I think this sounds amazing 🙂

I think some people would miss the cake, but its YOUR wedding, and they will get over it.
Plus, who DOESNT love pie?!
Although, FI’s cousin got married in March and had a small cake for the cutting (and for those who are crazy and don’t love pie), but also had a whole table of pies. If it’s that big of an issue, i’d suggest getting a small cake for those who want it.

I wanted to do pie, but DH didn’t like the idea.
I personally always like having wedding cake – but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a change of pace.
I think you should go for it! (after mailing me samples, of course) 🙂

cake is so lame. I love pie! 🙂

I would miss the cake only because I love cake. It is my favorite food! If I didn’t have to worry about getting fat I would eat it breakfast, lunch and dinner. Most people won’t miss it though.

Yay, another pie bride!!! My fiance and I love pie, so we are making (and employing friends and relatives to make) all of our pies. I made our piestands aswell, using some DIY craft ideas online with candle holders and plates. As another bee commented…who doesnt like pie??

I was going to have pie but didn’t due to issues with our venue. I totally REGRET it. Have the pie!!

We didnt have cake. I got a few people thanking me for not serving it. We did have a petite desert buffet with an assortment of small things so people could have a few different items if they so chose

I assume this isn’t what you’re looking at, but friends of mine had a pie-and-punch type reception, potluck-style, with some savory quiches to balance the sweet, and everyone LOVED it. Now, admittedly, the wedding was on 3/14, “Pi Day”, and it was made clear that pie was happening, but still, it was great.

When asked “cake or pie?” … the answer is always both!
Seriously though, just pie would be yummy too! I love the idea of a pie bar.

Ahh! I said yes but meant no! I say do the pie!!! Yum!

I LOVE PIE! more than cake actually, but I do like the decoration aspect of a wedding cake… still, if neither of you like cake, pie is totally the way to go 🙂

I’m skipping cake in favor of an italian pastry my fiance brought back from me when he picked up my ring from my grandma in boston.
AND I have a friend who is doing pie for her outdoor wedding in Oregon this fall! It’s also her fave. The wedding is about you, not people’s expectations of what a wedding “should have.”
