Wedding planner…? Anyone used one

Ours is kinda in between DOC and Full Planner. It’s a “day of coordinator” package but she is not affiliated with the venue and has helped us through the whole process. She has been super helpful and has set us up wtih so many vendors and has been willing to reserve/call/set things up for us even though we didn’t do a full package with her. I totally love working with her because she has given us so many creative ideas and she really has seen it all. She has steered me away from wasting money and guided me towards getting the most bang for my buck. 

I think it depends on you and your budget whether it’s worth it. If you have the money for it, it can help relieve some stress/duties from you and help you get some great ideas and details. If you are a control freak (not in a negative way) and love planning/details then a coordinator may not be right. We didn’t opt for a full planning package because I wanted more input/say and the extra cost wasn’t worth it because I would rather spend that money elsewhere.

I used a DOC but not a full wedding planner. My DOC didn’t help coordinate anything with any of my vendors, nor did she offer any suggestions or get us any deals. The ONLY reason I hired a DOC is that I was DIY-ing a lot of elements and needed someone to transport them, set them up, break them down and make sure that everything stayed on track during the course of the day.  I am SO glad I did that, as the day was stressfull enough and they were taking care of stuff in the background while I was freaking out about getting to the church on time in the Hair and Makeup Chair.

@Allyg:  We’re using a full on wedding planner, mostly because we’re just too darn busy and I plan events for my job, and I didn’t want my wedding to be “work” for me. We’re also planning long-distance, so that was another huge part of our decision to hire a WP. I can honestly say she is worth all the money we’re spending on her services. She’s found our venue, managed our budget, kept all our vendors in order, got us great deals, took care of the tricky stuff, and is so darn creative and amazing. She’s truly more than just a spreadsheet-keeper, she’s a creative bomb of positive energy and great ideas. 

I’ve had a zero-stress wedding planning process, and I contribute most of that to her.
