Hi guys, I am happy to announce that the wedding planning is flowing smoothly. I don't have a theme as much as I have tradition incoporated in the wedding. I am having an American Ceremony and then a Nigerian Reception. I have a question regarding having a wedding planner. I've already found the photographer, venue, florist, cake maker, wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses, tailor for the bridesmaids, materials are coming from Ghana for other family members to wear, and my stepmom and friends can help tie our gele ( head wraps). The only thing left is the DJ and lighting and the traditional elements for the reception. The wedding planner ( who specializes in Nigerian weddings and is also a family friend) is charging me 1500 for planning and the day of coordination. Is that a deal? How much does a day of corrdinator usually cost? If that is the approximate amount that a day of coordinator cost I will take most steps to look at hiring her. What do you guys think?

    Where do you live?

We had a coordinator who helped the whole month leading up to the wedding, coordinated the rehearsal, and ran the whole wedding day. She only charged $750. We got married in the Dallas area.

@highwire: Oh okay. The wedding will be in Atlanta and the planning will start and soon as I sign the contract up to the wedding including day of coordination.

i think it depends on where you live. are you in a major city? here is seattle it would prob run around $1-2k. sounds reasonable.

It depends on where you live and how much experience the coordinator has. If you are looking for a deal, you could hire someone who is just starting out or does coordinating as a side job.
