This ranges tremendously. Some of the top end planners won't even take brides that don't have a certain minimum budget. I would say average range for a good planner (not these super top end people) is $7000-$15000. We are paying over 10k.
I'm not sure about DOCs though...
I second what LM said - it varies widely. You can find a few for $800 (day of) and others for $2k (just for day of, nevermind full planning services).
I have a GREAT and affordably priced planner I'd happily recommend, though: Tracey with Polka Dot Events. Check her out and tell her Candice sent you, hehe. She's new but she's really energetic and bright and fun. My first meeting with her was a blast and she responds to emails really quickly.
I live in NYC am using Sarah at http://www.nyengagements.com/ for my DOC. Although its called DOC, she starts working with you 3 weeks before your wedding- she contacts all the vendors, puts together day of schedules, and takes care of all the little things the day of. Her contract fully details everything she will do.
She is really organized and responsive, got great references and I am excited for her to be helping us!
When I looked I found prices as low as $800 (but the woman was totally unresponsive, not a good sign) and up to $3000.

Does anyone know what the price range for a wedding planner is for the NYC area? Or for that matter, a DOC coordinator going rate?
