I think that planners are great if you and your FI have the personalities that will accommodate a third party in your planning. I think they can help balance couples out, while bringing unique and thoughtful ideas to the tables. They can also put you in touch with a lot of vendors that you might not have found otherwise.

Also, planners can be expensive, but sometimes they can help you find cheaper alternatives to things you were already going to do, so they help save you money in the long run!

I would try to find a planner that comes recommended. They can all look good on paper, and they can all tell you that they’ll be there for you on your special day, but I think true experience& happy brides speak louder than anything else.

My planner has already saved me so much $$$ that she has more than paid for any fee she’d charge!  I guess it depends on your planner, though….

Hello. It is hard planning a wedding. There is so much to decide for one day and you want it all to be breathtaking! JennyBryde, I’d be interested to see who you are having for a wedding planner. In PA they are extremely hard to come by!

The reason for my post, dannyb I am working on becoming a wedding planner. Like you I wanted my wedding to be unique. Not the typical wedding – something that people would be amazed by. Let me know if I can help!

Best wishes on your wedding!

I didn’t use a planner and I’m glad I didn’t as I had tons of fun doing much of the work myself. But there were definitely times I wish I had one to help me get some of the research and foot work done! Planners can definitely help you save money as they will have their preferred vendors who will offer discounts, and they know better how to deal with vendors. But planners can get expensive too. But remember, many planners have different services they offer. I know you can hire some planners on an hourly basis to simply do some research on specific areas. So decide on what you think you would use a planner for and then see if you’re willing to spend the money to have a planner do that work. Sometimes it might just be better to do that work yourself with the help of your friend. It really all comes down to how involved you want to be in the planning process yourself.

My planner is worth her weight in gold.  My FI and I are in Chicago, but our wedding will be 3 hours away in Michigan.  We both do not have the time to travel frequently for meetings.  Our planner consolidates all meetings and helped us pick vendors on our weekend trips.  She has kept us on budget and made the planning process EFFORTLESS.  I would definately recommend a planner.  BTW…I am a high stress, type A person.  My planner has helped me keep my sanity and in the process kept my FI happy, too 🙂
