It depends what you’re looking for.

IME, most full service wedding planners will charge 10% of the cost of your wedding, with a minimum of at least $3,000.

I did most of the planning myself and hired a day of coordinator to execute everything for me.  Pricing on this varies a lot, but starts at $1,200 where I had my wedding.

Most planners will also have an in-between package that will allow you to consult with her for ideas, but you execute it yourself.  Most of these packages were around $2,000+

Make sure you’re clear on your expectations whoever you meet.  Just because you’re hiring someone for the day of, doesn’t mean that they’ll be making all of your DIY items the day of your wedding.

I have a wedding planner and she is AMAZING.  She has taken a lot of stress off of things and is coordinating with all of my vendors.  She is also being the go between for my Future Mother-In-Law, me and my mother because we are not seeing eye to eye on a lot, and the wedding planner seems to find good compromises.

She is not cheap though.

We did get a lot of vendors lined up before we hired her.

I had a planner and it was the best choice i ever made. There were so many things that went wrogn the day of my wedding that i never knew about. That alone was worth the $2400 we paid her. We had a HUGE wedding. 300+ guest, over 26k and and huge wedding party.

It depends on your wedding size and budget. I had no cons when dealing with my planner.

We’re planning a $30K wedding for 100 people. We just hired a planner for day of coordination and 10 hours of “planning assistance”. It was $2,500. So far she’s done nothing and is away until July so I’m going to my catering meeting alone this week. I really hope she proves useful…

Some of the pros of hiring a planner are less stress for the bride, making sure everything you imagined goes exactly the way you envisioned. Wedding planners offer day of, partial and full service packages. They create time lines, handle any crisis that arise, offer advice, orchestrate the rehearsal, assist with vendors and venues, set up and decorate your reception and work the  day of your wedding. I cant think of any con to hiring a planner, but then again I may be biased, considering I am a wedding planner 🙂
