I am trying to understand and decide how important a wedding planner is, and if a wedding planner that comes with a venue/hotel is usually good or additional people are needed.
The details: I am having a Persian vow renewal/symbolic ceremony in the Cancun area or the Dominican Republic. There actually is one lady in Cancun who can make a beautiful Persian wedding come true, but she works independently and is not associated with any hotels. Many of the hotels have their own wedding planner. I also have my mother and I, and we can bring and buy everything we need there.
HOWEVER, I really want to know your opinion! You all who have had a wedding or been in the planning process with someone who has had a destination wedding, please share with me your experience! Is the wedding planner at the hotel good enough or do they just say they have a wedding planner but it’s really someone who does other things within the hotel and her/his side job is wedding planning? For ethnic/cultural weddings, do you think a wedding planner is imperative?
Also, she is quoting me prices of hotel rooms/night, and though they ARE better deals than if I had directly through the hotel myself, they are not as good of deals as I find on expedia. Can I just ask her for her services only, and my family and friends and I make our bookings through expedia instead of her or is that generally rude and unacceptable?
