@FutureMrsB123:  I’m right there with you, but we’d lose money if we just went to the courthouse like I originally wanted. FH is the one that suggested we have something more traditional and other than that and having a preacher officiate the ceremony, he hasn’t asked for anything else, and it’s OUR day, so how was I to say no?

Planning is frustrating, even more so when you start to look at real numbers. I didn’t plan on spending more than $2000 for our wedding for around 65 people, but that number quickly started climbing. We’re now at $4000, which still isn’t bad, but it was more than we wanted to spend. And I don’t feel like I’m going over the top on anything either! The venue and the food have been the two largest expenses followed by the photographer. We have been lucky in that we have gotten some discounts because most of our vendors are coming from our small hometown and our families are friends with everyone.

Weddings are expensive. There’s no doubt about it. I’ve had sticker shock more than a few times while planning.

The Bees tend to have great advice on how and where to get things to save money. Instead of renting table linens for $16 a piece from the venue, I bought all of mine for $4 a piece on Amazon.

ETA: If you do decide to do something like go to the courthouse, you can always have a nice reception afterwards. That way, you can use your traditional wedding budget for a kick ass reception. There’s also no rule saying that you MUST have the traditional wedding! You don’t have to get overhwlemed right now either. Take a minute to breathe, if you want the regular wedding, that’s fine. You just need to start getting a picture of what you want and go from there. Set a budget. Stick to it. Decide what’s most important to have and what isn’t. Bargain shop. There’s a classifieds section on here where Bees are selling stuff.

@FutureMrsB123:  It sounds like you have a good start. I love the idea of a taco bar too. Hm, could you perhaps rent tables and chairs from a church or another organization? My MOH found a church close to her venue and they let her rent 60 chairs for $60. She also made a donation to the church as well.
