FI doesn’t know it yet (he’s away for a few weeks, with limited phone contact) but last night he bought me $100 in wedding planning books. What a great guy!**
I’m feeling really challenged with respect to decor, so I picked up The Best of Martha Stewart Living : Weddings, as well as Simple Stunning Weddings: Designing and Creating Your Perfect Celebration to help me create a vision for my decor.
I’m also a little worried about how I want the reception to unfold (I haven’t been to a wedding in about 15 years, and hardly remember the details of the 2 I attended around that time), so i grabbed The Best Wedding Reception Ever! Your Guide to Creating an Unforgettably Fun Celebration because the reviews were amazing.
Meanwhile, I am working my way through A Practical Wedding: Creative Ideas for Planning a Beautiful, Affordable, and Meaningful Celebration, which I have to say is an incredible book. The author focuses mostly on what a wedding IS, not what you need to do or etiquette, and I find as I immerse myself in planning and forums, it really helps bring me back to earth and remind me the whole point of the day is not to stress over favors I paid $6.43 a head for, only to have them discarded when our guests are doing their spring cleaning (assuming they take them at all), but to celebrate marriage in a way that is meaningful to us. I can’t recommend that book enough.
What books have you found useful in your planning, or what books did you find not so helpful?
**Before anyone gives me hell for using his CC while he’s away, I do pay him for the stuff I order on it. That was a joke. 🙂
