I think you and he need to compromise on the whole thing– what is your budget, and what you BOTH want. This is going to be one of your biggest challenges as a couple. You can’t walk into it with an “it’s my day, and I want exactly what I want” attitude, and he can’t walk into it with a “If we can’t have the whole nine yards, we’ll just do the very basics, it’s all or nothing” attitude.  Find out why he wants his mother to be so involved in the planning, and based on that answer, set some reasonable boundaries, then honor them. At this stage of things, neither of you should be refusing anything; it’s still a blank slate, and you have to work together to figure out what happens next.
