I’m in the midst of marathon training and it’s consuming quite a bit of my time right now. It’ll be even more hectic when I go back to work (I’m a teacher). So I had the following conversation with my mother this evening:
Mom: So, after your race that’s it, right? You’ll cool it with the running?
Me: Uhh.. what?
Mom: Well I don’t mean stop running altogether, but you’ll just be maintaining some fitness until the wedding.
Me: I plan to do a spring race. Why does wedding planning have to take over my entire life?
Mom: You don’t have time for serious training when you’re planning a wedding! You have to do things like.. make cutesy escort cards.
So tell me- married bees and those further in the planning process- did you have to cut back on other activities to plan your dream wedding?

@Tmpalm: We’ve had a 10 month engagement and Ive been home with my four kids for most of it. I work part time and obviously do a lot with the kids, but have had to find an hour or two every day to get the wedding stuff done. I guess it really depends on how much DIY youll be incorporating. Though dont let that fool you, there’s a lot involved in working with vendors too.

I am off work for the summer and have been only working part time and casually since March and I have a lot of DIY stuff going on to be honest it does take up a large part of my time and I am dedicated to it. However it does not have to take over your life, you still have to be yourself… live life the way you want to, what’s important to you… wedding projects or running it depends on your values.. not the values of others.

Hmm. I really don’t think I’m capable of doing too much DIY stuff. I’m not the creative type. Did you know from the beginning that you’d be doing a lot of projects, or did you realize you had a lot to do later on in the process?

I’m getting married September 1. I have a half marathon on Sept. 30 with a serious PR goa, and I’m running a marathon on November 19 🙂 So, wedding planning is not my new fitness goal. I do some DIY stuff, but most of it is like: make a slideshow, scan pictures…I’d rather run in my spare time.
