I have no idea where this post should go...

I just recently got engaged and we've decided on an October 2012 wedding. I'm super excited and I have a ton of ideas swirling through my head but I have no clue where to even begin in the planning process. When looking around on the October 2012 board, I see that so many brides are really far along in the planning and it makes me kinda anxious! We're fortunate that we already have a venue. We're going to have the ceremony and the reception at my father's farm. Food will be from my father's restaurant so I'm not sweating that right now either. However, I haven't the slighest idea where or when to start anything else.

    So...any advice or pointers?

Martha Stewart weddings has a great checklist that you can customize.  I would print that up and start from there.  It has the months when everything should be ordered, etc.... I used the planning parts of the site quite a bit when I was planning.

Congrats and welcome to the Hive.

Start looking for music and a photographer, so you can get the big stuff out of the way. And you should start looking for your dress too, it's fun and you need plenty of time to order those usually. And then I would just keep going through inspiration photos and start solidifying what you want, so you can get into those details.

Just have fun adn enjoy it! It's a lot but as long as you get the big stuff done you can take your time with everything else!

You are probably going to get so many different suggestions that it will confuse you more! I started by buying a wedding planning binder where I could begin to think about budgeting and comparing vendors/ideas as I came across and looked into them. Beyond that, the first thing you should do is pick a venue and book it! Then you'll have the date a location!

Beyond that, http://www.theperfectpalette.com/ this is a great website to help you think about colors and different ideas.

It's also helpful to check out blogs for ideas abotu the wedding you want. Just remember to check out DIFFERENT blogs since certain blogs tend to post the same genre of weddings.

Another idea is checking out The Knot, I made an account right off and started to look at different photos for ideas. Good luck!

BUDGET! You can't decide on how many guests, a venue, vedors, catering, anything really until you have some number in mind. Start there :)

I started with the Knot, but found that it wasn't quite as helpful as WeddingBee has been. I tried looking for venues on the Knot, to get ideas, but the only places in Massachusetts that they think exsist are in Boston or that area, and I'm in Western, MA. And some of their ideas and suggestions are clearly for people who plan to spend tens of thousands of dollars on their weddings. Obviously there is not a single thing wrong with that, it's just a lot more than we can afford, so it just wasn't quite as helpful as I would have liked.

I also got a subscription to Brides magazine and my FSILs got me a subscription to the Martha Stewart Weddings magazine. Those have actually been pretty helpful.

And honestly, check out Pinterest. They have TONS and TONS of amazing ideas for BM gifts, photos, etc.

For my dress I started looking and then got a part time job at a bridal shop and found my dress there. And I just started looking online for jewelry. I have a couple sites that I used if you'd like me to send them to you. :)

    You'll get there, no worries.
