I don't have any big advice on making it seem less 'down home' but I will say, I hate 'pig roast' so make sure you serve something else too!
Also-I think as long as the decor is sort of upscale or even that rustic-chic style that is so popular now, having a roasted pig as the main entree won't seem 'hickish' at all. Just make sure it's not served on paper plates with champagne in dixie cups and a red and white gingham tablecloth!
It doesn't matter what kind of food you serve as long as the reception has personal touches. Make sure that your guests' comfort and fun-level is in your consideration... keep decorative themes consistent from the ceremony to the reception and no one will think "hickish" when they look back at your reception.
I want to do a BBQ/Picnic kind of reception. If you google Picnic wedding you can find alot of stylish modern weddings that did what your looking to do. Good luck!
PS - MY MOUTH IS WATERING! I guess it's lunch time for me! Ohhh, ham!

My fiance and I have decided to have our wedding and reception at our riverlot. I am originally from the city/beach in Florida. I met him while he attended school to become a Pilot. We have moved to his small home town to live and this is were we are having our party. We are trying to combine my taste and his. We will do a pig roast, but i need help trying to make it not so hickish. lol. Our colors are purple, turquise, and cobalt blue. I have the ceremony down. But how do i transition from my artsy city style to a down home pig roast? Any advice?
