If you’ll upgrade to platinum in the future then I would just get platinum now, it will be cheaper in the long run and then you get to keep the same ring you got married with. I’m in England and my ring is platinum. It has 12 diamonds with a total carat weight of 0.17 and the stones are D/E colour clarity around VS2 I think. I paid £1275. I’m not sure what that is in Euro but I’d say yours sounds about right as it has more diamonds and a slightly higher carat weight x

Can you show is the ring that you like? You can save more by ordering online. Not sure how much tax will cost, but I’m guessing that it’s will going to be cheaper even with tax.

Keep in mind that engagement rings and wedding rings in Europe tend to be a lot more expensive than in the US, so asking American bees might not really be the equivalent.

I have a 1 ctw diamond cluster ring set in white gold for my engagement ring and we paid £1500 for that, which is approx. €1890. When I’m looking at wedding bands I’m going to have one custom made with a jewellers, and he has said that a 18ct white gold band with diamonds on the side will be between £600 and £800 (€750-1000) depending on what the tcw would be. For reference this is the band I’m looking at getting:

I personally don’t see the point in getting a white gold now if you’re upgrading to platinum later unless you really can’t afford it at the minute. Also, you’ll need to take into account what material your engagement ring is, because you’re not supposed to mix different “harshness” (e.g. 9ct gold with 18ct gold or gold with platinum) because the softer metal ring will eventually be damaged by it.

Get whichever matches your engagement ring. Platinum is much stronger than gold, and often scratches or flakes away over time when put directly next to gold.

If your ering is platinum you should get the platinum band.

chevie:  then I’d definitely say go for platinum. Your rings are something that you’re going to wear for the rest of your life, so I’d rather spend more money on that and then spend less on my flowers or shoes or whatever. In my part of Europe it’s extremely uncommon to upgrade your rings later on and I was quite surprised when I read on here how (in my view) many people seem to do it. It’s just never anything I’ve come across.

So anyway, I’d say that if you can afford it go with the platinum straight away. Sounds like a pretty reasonable price to me 🙂

chevie:  honestly you can buy a used ring for half the price.. just replate it if it’s white gold. They have awesome deals on diamondbistro.com or eBay.

match the metal of your ering. It will wear differently if you have different mentals
